You gotta take the wheels off to inspect the brakes. Unless they just visually looked at the rotors and pads and called that an inspection.

Regarding your wheel coming off, my OG who passed back in 2017 from cancer told me that happened to him once as a young man. And him telling me that made me paranoid about my wheels so I try to check them whenever anyone touches them.

He said his car went one way and the wheel went another. Made him yell at the top of his lungs he was cracking up when he told me the story

Lesson learned. I would have checked that before getting on the highway. Side streets are one thing, but a highway? You gotta make sure your car is straight.
