I refuse to credit Dallas's win percentage to Dak Prescott.
I don't disagree with this premise, but the way to compare them is thru the same amount of time in Cam's career. Cam has played double the time Dak has thus far, it isn't apples to apples to compare a guy in his 9th year to a guy in his 4th year. Dak is still ascending----->I don't think his ceiling is much higher, but he isn't tapped out yet---->while Cam has in all likelihood already hit his ceiling...
So of course at this point, the best version of Cam is better than the best version of Dak we've seen so far. Through four years though, with the caveat that this season isn't over yet, I'd say Cam was marginally better; his big play potential was higher. But Cam thru Year 4 was not by any stretch of the imagination more than marginally better than Dak...
What I do believe is not just anybody could take Dak's place in Dallas and be as successful. I mean we can run through a million QBs from Fitzpatrick to Osweiler to whoever's, not just anybody could step in and be as efficient. So because of that, you gotta give him some credit for the team's success. Dak isn't a horrible quarterback. He's limited, and I don't think he'll ever turn into a dominant player, but you can see some growth this year...
IMO, we’d be foolish to get rid of him without giving him the opportunity to play with this current squad at 100%
I kinda agree with this, but then the other part is you gotta consider what's best for the franchise. Allen isn't a better player than Cam, but Allen may be better for the team to continue winning. Plus, there would be nothing wrong with gameplanning to ride this entire season out with Allen and
forcing Cam to sit the year out...
That's honestly what I'd do. Allen has already shown that he's a competent backup at the very least. If you (meaning FO and Rivera) still believe in Cam as the franchise, the best way to protect the investment is to allow him to fully recover. Win, lose, playoffs or not, ride the year out with Allen. This gives your franchise QB the opportunity to fully heal, and it truly allows you to see what you have in Kyle Allen. He's 4-0 now, but some losses are coming, some picks are coming, and you get to see how he responds to the inevitable adversity he's gonna face...
If he can't respond accordingly, then you know you've got one more year of
a fully healthy Cam to take a shot at the Super Bowl. If Allen does respond well, he just may be your future, and it will make it easier to move on from Cam. This has been happening forever, it happened when the Pat's moved from Bledsoe to Brady, it happened when the Niners moved from Montana to Young, and countless other occasions...
You don't owe Cam the opportunity to see what he can do when healthy, he's been there 9 years and you've already seen it. You owe your players and your fanbase the responsibility of going with the best chance to win. Cam is a .548 career QB. His 8 previous years, he's had 3 winning seasons, 5 losing seasons. You don't owe him shyt. If Allen is keeping this thing moving in the right direction, he deserves to be your guy, regardless of how fondly you as an organization or fanbase feels about Cam...
Montana was infinitely better than Cam and far more accomplished. If that decision can be made about him, for gotdamn sure it can be made on Cam Newton...
It’s a thought, but probably may not work out like we envision it, but I’d love to see it
I think cams biggest issue is resting until he’s fully healed, he needs to take this year and just get healthy, i think he also needs a change of scenery, what team, I’m not sure, but if you put him in an offense where he doesn’t have to be the man, and a good defense i think he can do numbers, a good landing spot would be Denver, clearly the Flacco thing hasn’t worked out, after that, it’s a toss up to how committed the team is to their current qb
Too early to pull the plug on Flacco in Denver, and at any rate there is no real reason to think Cam will do better there...
