Hey SealScarFace, I actually only replied to this thread out of extreme boredom, so I don't care to really respond to your response or anyone's. Meant to say that when I posted.

That post also had some good things in it besides that one line. I clarified my stance in at least five different post after the one so yeah :yeshrug: I will continue to assert that the women's movement had different leaders and arguments and not everyone even agreed with each other in the movement (just like every other movement).

Daygo just wanted to argue his talking points and continue to say what I meant even after I clarified. Anyone who tells me what I mean after I told them what I mean

Blanket labeling what I said as talking points doesn't relieve you from actually having to counter them or take away from their validity. Especially when contrasted with the rest of feminism, but like you said, you'll NEVER be convinces otherwise and being stubborn is the same thing as being correct, apparently.

What am I supposed to be countering? Why do you continue to try to get me to argue for viewpoints that I don't have? I said those people are apart of the movement, but you will not convince that those views were all it was about and you are clearly misinformed if that is what you think.

Try to argue with someone else because you clearly don't want to have a conversation that goes beyond what you learned your freshman year in college.

I pointed it out to you already in a quotation, but I suppose you'll want to distance yourself from your own words the same way that you are distancing feminism as a whole from one of its most influential facets. You keep trying to say that I just have "talking points" in order to avoid actually having to answer them or resorting to ad hominem, but you've never actually said why I was wrong.

Dude you did not point anything out. You made up a fake quote to suit your argument and I rebutted with my actual quote.

No where did I try to distance anything. For you to make that claim means that you are being willfully ignorant or you lack reading comprehension skills.

Do you know what the word pertinent means? Because that is the way I described every facet of the women's movement. I did not make anyone more important than the other. Please don't keep quoting me if you aren't going to actually read what I said.

So I guess pointing out that analogy you made between the civil rights movement's different facets and the feminist groups wasn't quoting you? Or the fact that I said that the other quote I had was a hypothetical that was a go to response out of feminists? Or that you tried to distance feminism as a whole from the Andrea Dworkin quotes and others because it was just a facet and doesn't represent feminism as a whole? I pointed out that you said that they were different facets, and regardless of you using the word pertinent, you still pointed out that they were distinctly different parts and therefore, it just sounds like you're contradicting yourself when you do so, yet still say it's an important part of feminism. Why point out that they were different if they were just as important, otherwise? If they're all just as important as one another, then feminism would be as I had said, about hating men. This has devolved into obsessing over semantics, though, because there's no actual counter to my original points.

Okay I am done with you after this because you are indeed being willfully ignorant.

You blatantly lied and said that I said something about "us feminist". You made up a quote to suit what you hope I had said. Anyone can read this read and see that. That is the quote I'm referring to. You cant make up hypothetical quotes and them pretend I said them.

YOU are the person trying to making the man hating regime define all of feminism which is a simple ass argument. My point is that you and your argument are simple. I am an academic and it's academically dishonest to ignore all sides of an issue.

For the last fukking time. I NEVER DISTANCED DWORKIN FROM FEMINISM NOR DID I DESCRIBE THAT IS LESS IMPORTANT OR RADICAL (those are the things you wanted me to say...those are positions you tried to force me to argue).

The point of my post is that many of you are too fukking stupid to realize that those quotes are not all feminism is about. That isn't a contradiction that is me presenting a nuanced approached to a dualistic thinker (and I should have known I was wasting my time). If you don't get that then there is nothing I can do for you.

Good night.

/ragequit!!!

You can't ignore the times that I quoted you. I also didn't blatantly lie and explained that other quote. There was nothing hateful about what I said, but plenty that was hateful about what the feminist leaders said. You said that you were not trying to separate the quoted feminists from the whole while saying that they were separate facets, so what was I supposed to think when you pointed that out? In fact, you go on and contradict this point in your last bit of the piece there when you say that the hateful comments are NOT what feminism is all about. Do you not see the contradiction there?

And now you're projecting onto me calling yourself the high-minded academic and that I'm the one who's willfully ignorant despite being the only one between the two of us who cited anything and pointed out my grievances with feminism. :aicmon: You can't make analogies and get mad when people call you out on them.

It's not a rage quit. it's a i am wasting my keystrokes because this person lacks reading comprehension and keeps trying to twist what I'm saying because he can only discuss one aspect of the women's movement quit. Also, I am academic who conducts scholarly research.

Finally when you said distancing you are implying that I'm trying to dismiss them which never did. The other things you quoted supported my argument that the women's movement like other movements had different facet, with different arguments and strategies that made up the entire movement.

As far as citing things and having grieves with feminism, I said that I didn't agree with the stance on sex (it takes away women's agency). What else do you want me to say? My argument was about simple posters on the board who talk about feminism everyday as if they know what the hell they are talking about. If you want to know more I will send your ass a syllabus with plenty of citations. However like i told marcuz in another thread, i am not about to be searching, copying, and pasting outside stuff when i am on my ipad bc it is tedious. Will that make you happy?

Also I'm not a damn feminist; therefore me saying anything "hateful" has no reflection or bearing on feminism. So what the hell are you talking about?

You seem awful defensive over feminist ideology for someone that doesn't identify as a feminist and spends as much alleged time as you do studying the subject. You also seem to assume quite a bit about people that disagree with you on the subject.

I think that the people that formed the foundation of feminism (those that I quoted plus many, many more) combined with the idea that the patriarchy (things that are male and masculine) is the source of society's ills while feminism (things that are female an feminine) is the solution to these problems is completely slanderous and the manipulation of the language in such a way is something that lends me to believe that feminism is something that I just can't cosign with. Language is one of the strongest determinants of a culture, and by manipulating the language like that, it's a pretty slick way to subliminally get people to hate men and get them to just immediately assume that men are the problem.

In addition, there are quite a few feminist leaders that have had quite a bit of choice words for men in general. Am I supposed to let all of that go just because there are other feminists that say otherwise? These women were some of the biggest leaders of the movement. In fact, women like Camille Paglia, a moderate feminist, was figuratively excommunicated from the movement just for stepping out of line with the rest of the leaders.

Gender egalitarianism? Sure. In fact, I'm for women's rights all across the board. I'm on board with that, but when feminism claims to care about men by paying lip service via obscure blog (while still blaming men for their own problems by saying that it's "patriarchy" and "rape culture") while doing nothing else to remedy the harms incurred by men as a result of unfair gender roles, and in some cases fight legislation to help men, or in some cases fight for legislation that hurts men, it causes me to think that it's hateful.

Now in light of all of those things, I don't see why I should think of feminism as anything besides a hate movement. Rape culture? Patriarchy? Are you kidding me? How is this not a hate movement? These are pretty strong words to be associating men with on a regular basis. How am I supposed to believe that these people have my best interests at heart and would fight for me if I was suffering as a result of gender roles somehow?

I'm defensive because you keep attributing beliefs and thoughts to me that I've told you multiple times that I don't have.

So seem awfully combative about this topic. You bragged about making a woman cry over this topic. You also seem to spend a lot of time on the topic. Are you a woman hater? You must be since you know a lot about topic and love to berate women. You see how silly that sounds...unless it's true.

I actually have a reason to know a lot about the topic considering that my substantive research areas are education and race, class, gender. It would be awfully silly for a sociologist to not be well read in the subject.

What's your excuse besides trying to make women cry?

Finally, you can think what you want. That doesn't make it the truth.
