Washington fans about to neg train u...We had this talk before. I saw Darrel green get beat so many times in the 80s and 90s that I think his sprint speed s more renowned than his cover skills. Still a great corner, but he wasnt shut down
I dont know what they said about Aneas or Eric. Michael Irving called Aneas his toughest corner.
plus...Im the oldest head in here. Darrel got beat a LOT
I meanGreen better than Asante though, who was nothing more than a ballhawk, that's how he got all the picks. Nose for the ball and nothing else...
That’s kinda what you want your CB to beMy question to you in rebuttal is, what answer are you looking for?So he made the 90s All-Decade Team with Prime, Rod, and Aeneas (cats in here always forget about Rod)...
I didn't see any of these guys in real time so all I have to go on is legend and stats. Green's Per 16 in the 90s was 3 picks/42 yards/TD, two PDs and 62 tackles. He only made two All-Pros in the 90s (both 1st Team) and four Pro Bowls, he does have 4 picks in 7 90s playoff games but just 5 tackles in those games. By comparison:
Aeneas
5-61-1, 1 PD, 1 FR, 50 tackles
*only played in two playoff games in the 90s but had 3 picks and 4 tackles
Prime
5-127-1, 1 PD, 1 FF, 2 FR, 46 tackles, 5 picks in 12 playoff games
Rod
5-111-1, 2 PDs, 1 FF, 2 FR, 71 tackles, 1 sack
1 pick, 24 tackles in 9 playoff games
I fail to see how the numbers validate him as on these guys' level. Outside if the numbers, I grew up a Redskins fan so I knew about his legend, but I came up in the Champ years, what exactly did Green do better than Champ besides flat speed? Because Champ is definitely a Top 5 corner of the last 30 years and you could probably argue him as Top 5 All-Time, he's the best cornerback I've ever seen...

Nothing you said after this matters.I didn't see any of these guys in real time

.Some of yall in here are tripping about Asante Samuel's career and ability tho. He should arguably be in the HOF
Wasn't Darrel like 5'8 or something? I'm older like yourself and I remember most those DB's back then were nowhere near 6 feet tall. I remember a breh in SF that got drafted early 2000's and he was considered a giant at 6'1. He was a cornerback.
I'm a big Redskins fan so I'm a bit biased but Darrell for his size was a pretty complete corner, good tackler, and decent cover, he did get burned quite a bit during the later ends of his career. He was extremely physical though. I do think Arenas was better in coverage though but he played for the Cardinals which no one cared about back then.
I think any bigger cornerback then was praised just based off the fact they were bigger than 5'8-9.
Must be hereditary cuz his son is trash as a DB tooNot at the expense of the defense's integrity which is what Asante did. Sherm is the best version of Asante. He was a zone ball hawking corner, but never got roasted on the same level as Asante in their primes.
Bobby Taylor was like 6’3 or so I believeYou're thinking of Mike Rumph.
6'2 205 is way above average for a CB.
You have a few outliers ( Patrick Peterson,Sherman, Sean Smith) but the majority are under 6'.
