Never met an Asian who resented their parents for pushing them to obtain a life they could only dream via a good education.
Exactly.
We should be doing the exact same thing, but it's thecoli.com so....

Never met an Asian who resented their parents for pushing them to obtain a life they could only dream via a good education.

This is terrible parenting and it’s one of the main reasons why many Asian countries have high suicide rates (particularly Japan & South Korea)

This is part of cultural capital, and it does have substantial benefits in a knowledge based economy, as evidenced by their financial success. It is not the only factor, as there seems to be a correlation between immigrants education level in their native country and subsequent outcomes when they head overseas.

Why the random hateHence why I said in my first post "if you like it, I love it".It works for them.
The Black kids who I grew up with had parents with high standards and expectations. It worked out for us.
Not once have I read any of these articles thinking that some other group's methods are something to emulate. People I knew were from different ethnic groups, so I never saw academic success or parental pressure to succeed as being tied to ethnicity. I saw it as tied to individual household standards.
If what the author's parents did worked for her, great. She may temper their methods with love and encouragement when she raises her own children. But those high standards will still be there.
andcontinually deny affection, acknowledgement and respect to your child, even once he reaches the goal you set for him, for him to develop work ethic
“You’re a piece of garbage.” Can you believe that this is what my mom said to me whenever I messed up a test or forgot to do chores? I’m sure that this happens at least once in a lifetime to almost every Asian kid I know. I am now used to being verbally insulted by my own mother
That’s a good point, never thought about it like thatThis is terrible parenting and it’s one of the main reasons why many Asian countries have high suicide rates (particularly Japan & South Korea)

I been saying it all thru this thread. I said the financial gain is definitely apparent because they are taught how to win. The biggest issue with them is they aren’t taught how to lose. Thus. Cant handle it and it’s lights out. That’s a good point, never thought about it like that
Probably why suicide just seems to a part of their culture
The suicide rates of other countries doesn't really factor into this thread about Asian Americans. Other than as a deflection, to be honest.I been saying it all thru this thread. I said the financial gain is definitely apparent because they are taught how to win. The biggest issue with them is they aren’t taught how to lose. Thus. Cant handle it and it’s lights out.
