no they are not, in reality for the most part white people still control ca, politically and economically, latinos are very very slowly gaining power

i was just pointing out that that asians had blocked a latino effort to bring back AA, but they could block it because the republicans were also blocking it, so republicans only needed a few votes to block it, but overall asians have very little political power in ca

the lesson is that asians and latinos are willing to jump across politically if it suits them, that is why any black/yellow/brown/white/ people of color coalition is doomed to leave black people holding the bag
It would be so easy for us to get our shyt together if we just had a modicum of conviction and pride....

The whole higher education argument needs to be reconsidered. Like anything else, most of what is pushed on kids and parents is all marketing.

It used to be that young adults would learn by doing apprenticeships and come out knowing an actual skill. Now all they push is book knowledge without any application. That is a recipe for disaster as there are only so many desk jobs to go around (especially well paying). The other problem with desk jobs is you're easily replaceable as just about anyone can come in and do the same thing as you.

The Students that went to Booker T Washington's Tuskegee came out with book knowledge and applied skill from working with their hands. In his book, "Up From Slavery", he talks about how his students were more humble despite their talents compared to the students from a eastern black college. He is talking about the sense of entitlement which is running rampant today. Getting your hands dirty forces you to humble yourself. So yea you might of graduated with a 4.0, but what can you actually do? What can you do to add to a companies bottom line?

The cost of education is out of hand. If your parents can afford to send you to whatever school then by all means go for it. However, I think there should be some alternative for students who come from lower income backgrounds and don't have support at home. This includes the ability to attend prestigious schools. By sending them to a diploma mill college and loading them with debt, you are essentially making them slaves. Not to take anything away from students that do well, but many of them are blind to see the advantage that was given to them by having both parents and money. They didn't have anything to do with being born into that family just like the poor kid didn't have anything to do with being born into that one. Life will never be fair, but there should be other avenues for kids in these situations.

The right wing cac scoured the country for Asians to file the suit....

At the end of the day people are out for themselves, what I wrote stands. Read the article.

Admission should be a pure numbers game.
There shouldn't even be names attached, just test scores IMO :shaq2:

Too many students have the same numbers. And numbers aren't equal across the board.

Test scores are easily manipulated by money... which I guess means the tests are accurate because if you have the money to take the prep courses, then you have the money and support network behind you to 'succeed' without worrying about how you're going to pay for college in the first place.

I guess it's still better than going by gross grade inflation.

I guess the real answer is to tax the population hard enough so that anyone who makes a C average qualifies for post-secondary school free of charge? at which point the only question is which one to attend?
