No office job trying to get some certs but I'm older so I don't even know if it's worth it. If I can't break in I'm gonna do nursing.

Get your A+, one of the Microsoft certs on Windows 7/8/Office, and your CCNA. That should give you enough to start getting some interviews for level 1 positions.

Not really. I got my CCNA, A+, and MCP (Windows XP) all before getting my first job. I used certs as a means to show that I had an understanding of the technology.

As an IT manager working in the field since 1998 I'll tell you that certs are only as good as you can prove. During the IT boom of 2004 many people were certified, but not qualified. And as a result, companies and managers got burned. So when I interview potential candidates, before I conclude, I pull out a laptop, console cable, and router/firewall/switch and make them show me what they can do.

Edit: Starting an IT staffing firm as well this year BTW. A buddy of mine was part owner of Zero Chaos and it sold for $250 million a couple years ago.

In all of the jobs I've interviewed for, whether it's been the federal government, small biz, large enterprises, and everything in between I've never had that happen. Most I've had is someone ask me to do some code review, but that's it.

I have been quizzed on various technical/security related questions though.

That's common, but risky. I find that some people interview well, and know just enough to touch the surface. Then when hired, I have to teach them way more than I bargained for. There's no substitute for being able to troubleshoot like a pit bull. Having a mind that just works until it finds a resolution is priceless.

I gotta computer/phone repair company.
How do you handle inventory?

Do you have a gTool?

I hate dealing with anything that doesn't have an apple logo. Samsung phones turn a good profit if you have the patience to separate the displays though.

There's a lot of money to be made in phones, but down here everyone does that shyt and nikkas get stupid with the price wars.

can you get a job with little experience with a ccna?

any brehs wanna form a study group?

I actually just started studying for my ccna this week. Shoot me a pm if you need material.

Do you have a degree also or just the certs? Would the coli consider hiring you? Can you break into their system anyways? :lolbron:

Don't have a gTool but I def need to cop one. I don't do the repairs though. I have a team that does that. I just handle the business stuff (marketing, website maintenance, customer service, etc).

Dropped out of college my Sr. Year actually. I was on the deans list too :heh:

And yeah I could probably break into the coli. I'm sure there's tons of exploits for XenForo (never looked it up though) and if I had to guess the admins aren't really staying on top of security. I wouldn't do it though because the Patriot Act lists hacking as an act of domestic terrorism. Not trying to end up in Guantanamo

I interview extremely well, but it's mainly because I'm a contractor so I jump around from position to position. I worked as an AD Architect for a large manufacturer and I think I was the 3rd architect they hired because the other 2 weren't that great. The job was pretty easy though. Wanted to migrate some domains, consolidate them, create a new namespace and integrate certain applications with AD and write a bunch of documentation. I actually liked that job a lot for some weird reason. Probably it was because the dude who shared an office with me was good peoples (old PM).

So if I am going to school right now for Computer Science, what do you think would be the most lucrative certs I should try to attain during my summer break?
Also what are some good ways to make a good amount of bread over the break?
