why so many of yall nikkas named patel. i go to uab land of the brown people and there's like 20 patels. (no hate no racism)

I never really looked into it, nor really cared.

But I think it's funny when a guy and a girl with the last name Patel get married. :laff:

Usually when most Indians choose to leave India, they migrate first to New York/New Jersey and then move from there.

When my parents came here in the mid 70s they lived in New York for a few years to get adjusted to the lifestyle, then eventually moved to Texas because my mom got a chemist job at a big plant here, she's been there ever since.

I secretly wished my parents had moved to California though. Azn guhs there. :krs:

and this is why i've always vibed with y'all and keep y'all as friends to this day.
this is basically my story ...and the story of many children of immigrants. parents left JA in the 70's went to NY hustled for a few years until they had enough saved to get us up out of the concrete jungle. we moved to texas when i was pretty young as well.

i've always ONLY kept super ambitous people as friends(parents raised me to be a snob like that) and south east asians fiit the bill. i esp. admire your culture of keeping fam close and the tremendous amount of RESPECT you have for not only for your elders....but what your parents SAY! much love at y'all.

Seems the unwritten rule of immigration is if you can't make it in New York then you won't make it in America.

exactly. that's what my parents always told me. if you can make it there you can make it ANYWHERE. gotta i apperciate their guts to up and leave everything and everyone they know to come to a foreign country and work for pennys.
sh*t my mom had to leave my sister behind (she was only 5) at age 22 to come to a strange land and be a nanny for a rich white jewish fam in Long Island. i can't imagine how hard that must have been for her...but she bit her tongue long enough for that family to sponsor her a visa.

Fast forward a few years her and my dad had stacked enough chips to buy a $300,000 home in Canarsie,Bk. (actually that house is probably worth almost a million now.)

thank god that grit and determination was passed down to me and my sisters.

sidenote* we've got a lot of Singh's in Jamaica
