I think the probability that intelligent civilizations contact each other in the same time frame is slim to none. It takes too long for organisms to evolve to a point where they can travel light years. Not only that, you have to figure that the civilization will kill itself (ie nuclear war or some equivalent) before it becomes focused enough to put its sole focus on space travel instead of warring states fighting over resources.

So wouldn't those signals technically be from millions and millions of years ago? So even if it was another civilization odds are they're dead
No odds are they've become super advanced artificial intelligence or cyborg so advanced we can't even imagine and they could now be anywhere no5 just on a planet.

They may not even exist in this dimension as we know it anymore. They may have transcended the use of traditional bodies and free flow around the universe as pure energy. Man thinking about shyt like this and shyt like the great filter just makes me somewhat depressed that I was born when I was. I don't care if it would lead to the end of humanity, I want to be there when we do encounter another species or our demise. I just want to be there. shyt, who knows what advances will be made in the next hundred years or so if humanity doesn't blow itself up.

What would happen if we found life that was less intelligent than us? What would we do

Ray Kurzweil hopes that we'll see it in his time and he's in his 70's he truly believes that our generations will see transcendence. Never heard of the great filter but i'ma check it out.

it's kind of absurd really....so they "detected" 15 repeating signals from an entire galaxy? there's probably a minimum of 100 different advanced civilizations in one section of that galaxy alone.....but we're supposed to get excited by this measly ass detection.
:mjlol:

It means we can possibly send them a message and have THEM come HERE...:gladbron: I mean we might get the technology of spaceflight & interstellar travel.

Despite widespread speculation, the possibility of the signals coming from an advanced alien civilization has been largely ruled out.

Yet every other news source is focusing on how it is a signal coming from an advanced civilization.

Alien seekers report 15 more fast radio bursts | EarthSky.org

Research published in March 2017 by astronomers at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics (CfA) suggests that fast radio bursts could be evidence of advanced alien technology. Specifically, these bursts might be leakage from planet-sized transmitters powering interstellar probes in distant galaxies. Theorist Avi Loeb, who co-authored that research, said: “An artificial origin is worth contemplating and checking"

The signals would be 3 billion years old. And if they were from an intelligent species, they would be 3 billion years ahead of us. We wpuldnt evwn be on the level of ants to them. We're playing games we might not like the prizes. :damn:
