for starters, jay didn't even blow like that until the last few months of '98.

how is master p not bigger than DMX in 1998?? what is the reasoning, aside from people trying to force P out the history books?? @bigbadbossup2012

compare the rugrats to south park brehs.

Jay was still buzzing from Vol. 1. There was the Streets Is Watching soundtrack. There's "Money Ain't A Thang" that dropped that summer. "Can I Get A..." and HKL dropped that Fall and the rest is history.

Master P was not bigger than DMX is 1998. X was a phenomenon in 1998 as wad Jay. You'd have to include No Limit as a whole to even support such an argument. Master P on his own was not bigger than X.

South Park is an adult cartoon, but the same level of corniness exists on both Mase and P's behalf.

I fukks with the debate goin on in this thread :myman:

nikkaz arguin over who was better between two legends and the back to back classics they dropped at the time, real hip hop shyt

Make me wanna revisit jays n xs three first albums

On some real shyt tho, fukk Xs legal troubles and drug abuse... IDAHIH, FOMFBOMB and Then There Was X are all classic albums to me

As well as Reasonable Doubt (Illmatic-like classic), Vol 1 (Personal classic, fukkin amazin) and Vol. 2 are my jays favorite albums n the only ones I can listen to without skippin a track.

Let's let @SirBiatch speak for himself.

Ayo mobb you know i fukk with you but you really gotta stop doing this shyt dude

Every thread your dropping info on @SirBiatch for over a year now. All this shyt between yall happened so long ago but you still cloggin threads up with this dudes thoughts and smileys cuz he has an opinion you dont agree with. Its getting too personal now

Lotta people dont live in america and see what we see and get into hip hop later. Dude reps good music but you been shyttin on him because he got on late... we old now. I did this typa shyt in highsxhool with new jacks but cmon man... we get it.

You went from the mobb deep guy to the sirbiatch guy

You dropping his face and his info in wvery post. Literally everyday i see you do this. Now you dropping his personal journals n shyt... i fukk wit you breh but its becoming a tad obsessive no. shyts over can we talk about hip hop please? Does every thread have to swerve into him.

The best part is i know he dont even see it so really its not even annoying him... just the rest of us.

End it breh. Shake hands. Keep it movin

I think X was/is the better performer
Hard to say.
1. Which time period? Jay has gotten better every year is the same true for x?
2. In 2018 A Jay concert costs a few hundred racks, it’s a huge event and all that shyt. A DMX concert is a damaged X barely keeping up.
3. What type of vibe is one looking for? Jay is has no voice over like X, bands or orchestras, has more hits that everyone knows etc. while X has more energy, more energetic hits that turns up the spot etc. But then again how would a Jay-z show be at BB Kings with day 1 fans vs how would an x show be in the garden with investment bankers and Beyoncé fans in attendance?

A lot of factors that make this a difficult comparison.

dmx was better than jay-z until he got that movie money and went overboard with his addiction
before that, he was a functioning drug attack
look at the lyrical content from and then it was x, to great depression
shyt was day and night (great depression was still a dope album but he was rappin different)
he never went back to being super lyrical after that

jay-z never the most popular but like esco said "hes a dikkriding..." who knows how to follow trends and associate himself with whoever is poppin at the moment
drake does that nowadays (but unlike jay, drakes the most popular)
its a smart way to stay revelant, especially someone like jay who is fueled by money
but it takes away from his art

It was me. I told Touchi it’s nothing but love/respect but according to his original stance on when was introduced to the music/culture he wasn’t qualified to make a statement like, “who was better in 98”.

Californ-i-a by way of BK
we need colis hiphop historians in here, @Art Barr @FreshAIG

bless us with yall's take of late 90s, DMX vs Jay (vs Master P?) debate

1.) who was hotter
2.) who was considered better (at the time)
DMX was 100% hotter at the time
Who was better was definitely up for debate. Some thought X was better, some thought Jay was better. I was a bigger X fan at the time, though Jay had the higher skill set, it wasn't like their talent level was a major gap. Jay was the superior lyricist and more diverse flow but X had the better delivery, content, emotions, voice.

I get it. Its just like every single thread now

Don’t know if you were around at the time, but it definitely wasn’t because of one song. Vol. 2 was filled with hits such as Hard Knock Life, Can I Get A, nikka What nikka Who, Money Cash Hoes, and Money Ain’t A Thing.

The album had sold 4 million copies before the tour, and would go to sell 5 million after. Add that with the success of his first two albums, and Streets Is Watching, I don’t see how he wasn’t deserving.

Ok but at the same tome x sold equal.

Hard knock life is what really propelled the album. Money aint a thing was on jds album and was for the summer. Money cash hows is a dmx song at heart. It was a big album but dmx dropped 2 number 1 albums and outsold jay with his first 3.

Im just sayin... dmxs songs were way bigger with the guys i hung with. Jay z became bigger but x was that dude in 98/99.

X was 3x out the gate. Jay had to work to get there and had the features but x was just x and he was a rock star compres to jay imo

Jay would never drop a somg like slippin as a single. 3x plat with that as ya major single. X was THE man And deserved to co headline that tour.

Y'all really need to do a mental health subforum on here. My dude, I placed that weirdo on ignore 3 years ago because he kept blowing up my notifications. He's STILL @ me daily?! WOW. :deadrose:

This weird idea that stalkers keep forcing is hilarious. I'm a verified Black man of a certain age. I grew up in a Black household. I started hearing hip hop in 1993 and actively followed it since 1997. And that's late now? :dwillhuh:

Even then, it has NEVER mattered when you get into hip hop. It simply matters how deep you get into it.

You went from the mobb deep guy to the sirbiatch guy

Following in the footsteps of other shytposters/shytmods who went from being a poster to being the sirbiatch guy. fukking pathetic :laff:

Just a tad? It's been 3 fukking years! :deadrose:

And that's the real ether.

How deranged do you have to be to constantly quote/@ a dude who hasn't read nor responded to you in 3 fukking years? That shyt's comedy! :laff:

With all due respect to that brother I @ him son. He also dropped proof, that reaffirms my stance as to what disqualifies you from giving your opinion. You literally positioned your response with, something along the lines of, “I remember back in 98”..

:stopitslime:

Like I said, it’s all love. I don’t have any issues with you personally.. I’m not making jokes or looking for attention.
