At what point did boom bap start to mean "anything with real drums"?

well technically the term "boom bap" is an onomatopoeia of the sound of real drums.

I've never heard of this, but I could see how younger listeners would make this assumption.

i know that but there's an obvious difference between using JUST 808's like so many beats these days and something that uses 808's in the background to beef up the drums.
