At what point do you give up on DYI and call a professional?

Thread reminds me, I wonder if people who own cars with a alternative powertrain (EV, hybrids, etc) can do DIY repairs on those type of cars. I used to see people work on their own cars all the time over the years. But never a hybrid or a EV.

I wonder if the average joe can even do minor repairs on a Tesla for example :jbhmm:

If I need a specialty tool that's too expensive then I call the pros.

Tree trimming I never DIY because the Mexicans can do it faster and better than I can, and they take all the waste with them.

Mainly, if the DIY job would result in significantly reduced quality compared to a pro job, then I'm calling the pros.

Sealed transmissions is the absolute worse. Engineers have been making it more and more difficult to do basic shyt with vehicles. It's a subtle thing. Engine space is good sized but once you try to work on anything you realize space is tight.

Thermostats....water pumps....stuff you shouldn't be dropping 1000+ $ to have taken care of. I had a fellow tell me his thermostat was on the underside of the engine. shyt had me :skip: .

I stay away from plumbing generally. I've done some shyt on my own in the past, but the fear of breaking plumbing scares me lol. Anything that I don't feel comfortable doing after watching the YouTube vid on it, I'm calling a pro. Anything a pro can do in half the time or more? Giving them a call.

My grandfather said always watch a mofo you hire to do work for you, so you can know how to do it yourself :manny:

if theres a big risk of causing costly damage greater than the cost of a pro if shyt goes wrong, bodily injury or death, I call a pro.
