And not a single notification was given yesterday. I thought this thread was dead.
For those who didn't understand Dr. Gates or even bother to view the video; simulation theory, is exactly what it sounds like. The world we live in could be nothing more than a computer program. The power of technology is currently doubling every two years, in the near future, growth will slow, but never stop. So eventually, a program will be powerful enough to make a simulated reality, indistinguishable from the one we live in. With that being said, it's much more probable that we're not the original civilization, but instead, just one of countless simulations. So instead of the first humans, coming into being, 300,000 or so years ago, they could have gotten their start billions of years earlier, and look something like this
by now.
I like the theory. But with that being said. The main idea behind this being a computer simulation is going to lead to scientist trying to find out the code and trying to tinker with it. Anyone who has played the Sims at one point has put in a money cheat. If this is a simulation people probably already know how manipulate the system and what is stopping the rest of us from toying with the simulation? Turning off certain codes that pertain to us. Aging, pain, gravity. What happens if the owner of the simulation decides to end the simulation? Lots of questions here, but I find this interesting, and yes I'm Agnostic. This is pretty interesting.
Neither I nor the theoretical physicist, who work on this everyday, know the answers to those question; that what makes it so exciting.
So the concept of God is absurd but us living in a computer is perfectly logical?
I don't have anything against your beliefs, Jesus; I just don't share them. The bible has too many logical inconsistencies for me to take seriously. Simulation theory may very well be wrong, but the fact that it's rooted in science, and not faith in sky deity, makes it more likely, imo.
If you think about it, no matter what the truth, of how we came into being is, it's going to pretty absurd.
