That leap you just made... If you're not worshipping God you must be worshipping something because those are the only two options... even though they aren't using the word 'worship' themselves is amazing to me. You're sitting here arguing semantics. Supporters used the word church because that's the simplest thing they could correlate this gathering to. You have no idea what viewpoint they have, otherwise you would have posted a quote of what they're worshipping. So instead of admitting you don't know shyt, you put the onus on THEM to prove they don't worship anything.
This is why I don't argue with theists.
If someone followed you around for 1 day what would they see you devote the most time to? Getting money? booty? knowledge? clothes? certs? baller status? disproving God? feeding the homeless? big brother and big sister? Y.M.C.A.?
Its not a big leap... its putting a label on what you already do...
Dude said he wanted the best of church with out the worship of God. Of all things to make reference to. C'mon now.
Let's see.
1.) They want to act like a church (but not worship God).
2.) They have a main speaker bring a message (like a Pastor).
3.) They have songs, music (some of them even have choirs).
4.) They take up a collection (or donation if you will).
5.) They do it on Sunday.
6.) They spread the message to other people.
What happens at a Sunday Assembly?
A Sunday Assembly service consists of songs (pop songs mainly) sung by the congregation, a reading (usually a poet), an interesting talk (that fits into live better, help often or wonder more), a moment of reflection and an address, which sums up the day and hopefully gives a take home message. Afterwards we have tea and cake (well, in Britain anyway!) to encourage people to stay and mingle with one another.
How is this any different than church with worship of God????
