Chicago folks blame Mississippi for sending so many violent people to Chicago. So Atlanta's beef is with Mississippi.

Yup. That was the Deep South and it was mostly full of poor, new, white trash slave owners unlike South Carolina, Maryland and Virginia that had wealthy, wannabe aristocratic slave plantations. They were all white trash though. But in a slave’s mind, Mississippi was like going to the favelas.

Richmond and Charleston were known for their extreme wealth. North Carolina had nothing comparable.

Some of those same planters from South Carolina migrated to Mississippi and then Mississippi gained the recognition as the wealthiest state of the Confederacy producing Natchez which rivaled Richmond and Charleston.
