Gotta disagree. South Carolina used to be a prosperous state during the slave era. Along with Virginia. Those two states, again…South Carolina and Virginia…were the two pearls of the South with Charleston (SC), Richmond (VA) and New Orleans being the major cities. Atlanta started off as just a train stop but eventually Georgia became a close third to South Carolina and Virginia with Louisiana also being close too because of New Orleans. But Mississippi, Alabama, Texas, Tennessee were all new states or late to slavery. That’s why slaves hated going to those places because you were essentially being sent to the sticks. North Carolina was closer in terms of its physical location but culturally it was a backwater. It was nothing compared to South Carolina. They used the name “Tarhell” as a derogatory term for the people there because it described all the poor ass white trash cacs that worked in the tar pits. When the Union defeated the South in the Civil War, the Anaconda plan showed what areas they felt were vital breh. They took the Mississippi River (New Orleans) first. Then Sherman marched and took Atlanta, Savannah and Charleston in one swoop. Then they went up and took Richmond, the Capitol of the Confederacy. They didn’t give a shyt about the other wack ass states.
