It’s a lot to do with the way we consume music. Down south we listen to music the most in cars because everything is spread out and we don’t rely on public transpo. Plus strip club culture is bigger down here so the music reflects that. Also it’s the Bible Belt so church music or gospel is big, which in that is lot of chanting and repeating words over and over, ala down south rap.

Now up north guys were walking, on subways, buses consuming the music so they are more susceptible to lyrics because you can pay more attention to what artists were saying.
This is a lie and if you think all of new york is like this...you watch to much tv

South nikkas in here mad but it’s southern nikkas sayin this
Because them nikkas ain’t telling the whole truth
nikkas from the south listened to everything and always had an appreciation for rap period
I’m an 80s baby born in Little Rock Arkansas and I listened to nothing but east coast hip hop
That’s what dominated my childhood
From a Heavy D To Kwame to Public Enemy to Rahkim
So no these dummies are just that and being disingenuous
Nav is a mid ass comedian while the other nikka only has one joke that truly hit about two hash browns
Why would anybody take these two serious on this subject :russ:
True hip hop heads listened to every thing
No matter the region or coast
But who am I fooling
Majority of this forum is nonblacks and cosplayers who magically now appreciate their own culture :dead:
So of course you gumps agree:dead:

-I don't know the context behind these clips but nothing they generally said was wrong. I've been telling people for years there's a time & a place for everything & 9/10 when I'm outside I'm putting on Gucci over Nas. When people are in certain environments or moods they aren't trying to be preached to & many people listen to music for a mood, not a message.

This right here & it's what I've seen @Wild self & others say for 10+ years. It's one of the reasons why hip hop is in the state it's in

Its true, some crowds dont want too much thinking in their entertainment whether its music, movies, comedy...etc

I still like both the smart rappers and the ignant sounding gibberish from Migos or Keef

I turned the clip off in the first 5 seconds. “I’ve never been at a party and they played Rakim”…

That’s not party music nikka.

this is what we're currently witnessing with dem vs maga messaging. we see it in real time.

also, northeast culture in general was more intellectual. heavy emphasis on poetry, wordplay, and wit. southern culture more soulful and earthy. heavier emphasis on rhythm and the tone of voice being used dynamically as an instrument to tell a story.

obs exceptions, but just different cultural outlooks on music. no one is right or wrong. northern lyrics more complex. southern rhythms more complex.

I'm glad it's Atl nikkas saying it. Let it had been some dude from NY.

it's so serious that that's where you go with it¿

having pride in your contribution to culture is what gets nikkas out of pocket huh¿
