I feel like that started in around 2001/2002 from the Meadowcreek/Berkmar (Norcross/Lilburn) kids. That was around when my family moved to Gwinnett and I started hearing people call it “the Nawf”. It’s not North Atlanta at all but the “Eastside” isn’t east Atlanta. Only the “Westside” actually consists of only Atlanta neighborhoods, even though it includes “zone 3” which is geographically south central lol. So the posters above us are right in saying that it’s incredibly nuanced and confusing to people who look at all this from the outside lol.

Like I said in another thread, I’ve lived in Decatur, Atlanta, Stone Mountain, and lithonia as a kid apart from my living in Texas and east NO. When people ask me where I’m from I just say I’m from all over. I can’t even claim my birth city because my parents moved to New Orleans a week after leaving the hospital lol.

I think the repping Gwinnett stuff happened after the 08 recession because folks from the East Side started moving to Gwinnett in larger numbers. Before that Gwinnett was just Mexicans and rich white folks

Yea alotta people forget that Atlanta was one of the first cities to tear down all of its public housing. All the hoods I grew up knowing about were gone 10-15 years ago. For alotta poor black people they moved to Section 8 housing on the Southside or had to leave the city and move somewhere outside Atlanta

As for the video, Truist Park in is the zip code of 30339 which is technically Atlanta b/c it’s unincorporated Cobb County but she should’ve done this at State Farm Arena/MB

A city can’t exist with such a reach without its metropolitan area but it’s easy to overlook that in nyc since some of the things that help nyc stay afloat are not even in the same state, like the football teams or the statue.

North and west Gwinnett was mexican white. Central and South Gwinnett have always had a pretty sizable black population. It got an extreme influx of black transients in 2000-2001. The school I moved to went from 20/30ish % (I had to correct that lol) black to 80ish by 2003.

I agree that a lot black people spread to the west and north around 2008. I was already in California a grown by then though. I went back to see that high school and It’s a straight up black school with a step team and all that shyt lol. The black school I went to decatur was closed and reopened into a magnet school with mostly white students. shyt really flipped over the years.
