I think all the responses in the first page have no idea what’s going on. He was never signing an extension this offseason because he’s eligible for a much larger extension next year. This has been known since he signed his last contract.

Why did they formally offer him that, so that he has to formally decline it? :dahell:

Is this some bs with the ever more complex cba rules?

Why is this a story? He was always going to decline the extension because he's in line to make much more next summer.
Its a story because he's eligible for 5 years $246 million with the Lakers or 4 years $189 million with another team when he's clearly not worth that:russ:

He needs to be traded

Reaves is eligible to sign a 4yr $89M extension this summer. We gotta trade him.

:camby:

I don't think Reaves is dumb enough to sign that this summer when he can opt out after next year and get a way bigger deal in free agency. Also if he signs that extension that's an absolute steal for his talent level. That'd be even more reason to trade him as you can ask for more back considering how reasonable his salary is.

He’s not getting much more than that in free agency. He’s too limited defensively.
Tried to tell dude there was no way he was signing this extension. It was known that he was going to decline it.

the lakers will have plenty of cap room to pay him market value after next season. there will be cap holds and roster minimums that will lift that figure but when he declines his player option after next season the lakers will only have 5 players and 73 mil already signed. from reaves perspective the lakers got a team friendly deal once already. maybe he'll still end up taking less than he could get somewhere else, but not 4/89 unless he has a disaster year.
