Saw this in Dolby 3D, once again a truly beautiful film, I don't usually like HFR but it was done well here. Varang is easily the best character and Oona Chaplin smoked the motion capture.
While I liked this more than Way of Water, again the plot is thin, the acting is bland and this had no right to be more than 3 hours, I don't give a fukk about the Pandoran whale community and what they talking bout. if you're not seeing this in premium format then you might as well skip it.
Varang put that thang on Quaritch, had him thinking he was part of the culture , but I disliked what they reduced her to
This one has some pretty dark/adult scenes that surprised me. Heavy subject material at times. The visuals are incredible and to me superior to Way of Water.
But yeah you could have combined both sequels into a 2 hour 45 minute film easily. Would've been better and potentially broke box office records via strong word of mouth. Instead the reception of both has ranged from "Good to Mixed/Average"
The whales again. They were boring in the last one and drag this movie down too. I get the whole ecological angle, and commend Cameron in that regard but damn man, no more whales please.
I like Kiri but you can tell there's a mature woman portraying this adolescent character. Interesting experiment in acting/filmmaking however.
Varang is set up well but then sexually objectified just as quickly. James Cameron is a wealthy white baby boomer and you can feel that perspective at times throughout the loose story.
This film feels like a white fantasy of being accepted by people of color and God. This whole franchise actually. Admittedly that's sincere and better than the typical white savior trope that was prominent in the original movie.

avatar #4 - lo'ak has a son who is human sized. hybrid na'vi start to dominate the population. humans can breathe on pandora.
avatar #5 - 400 years later. humans can barely breathe on earth due to more polution. navi population exists on earth. human pop is terminator levels. navi can breathe on earth. navi become the colonial threat. hybrid na'vi think that the earth belongs to them. navi domination and human extinction are threats on earth. na'vi develop human traits such as greed. na'vi plant their fauna on earth and start to develop an eywa there too. earth rejects them. we get to see na'vi vs. nature (bears, tigers, lions). the last human dies.
There are important plot details you've got to see at the beginning and end of Avatar 2. If you've got the time and desire watch the 2nd one first.
It's just that Cameron could have condensed much of the story from 2 and 3 into one movie over all. I bet some fan will edit them together into a super cut after 3 is released to home/digital.
