im sitll not understanding the chip shortage

like whats actually creating it or even started it in the first place

just not cars effected by this
Demand was outpacing supply prior to the pandemic. The pandemic bought a surge in demand for electronics and there you have it

these aren’t just chips for cars
Just cop you a 05’ Acura or Lexus for under 6k, call it a day. Ride it til 200k, rinse repeat

why do y’all do this in every car thread

Even once/if inflation eases these prices are here to stay. Its like when the aviation industry raised ticket prices to cover fuel when oil was over 100/bbl. Once oil went down to 30/bbl they didn't drop prices. *insert Vince Carter it's over gif *

100%. Back in summer when there was that pipeline hack on the East coast that caused gas prices to shoot up. Even after the issue was resolved prices never really fell back to their pre-hack levels.

I know in the DMV I saw spots with gas for like $2.80-$2.90 for regular unleaded pre-hack. Time of the hack, ~$3.70. Post hack and even post summer, prices are ~$3.24.

That’s really the problem with inflation. Once prices stay elevated for long enough they become sticky and consumers adjust their baseline.

I was looking to trade in my car for something bigger for the fam but I dunno.

This market is insane :scust:

I was looking to trade my rwd F150 in for either a Telluride or a Palisade awd because I moved from Florida to Pa and last winter I was sliding all over the place

The prices and wait times for new vehicles are nuts. I ended up just copping a set of snow tires last week and sand bags for the bed of the truck to get me through this upcoming snow season.

I’m in VA and was looking to trade in my RWD RAM for the same reason. I was looking at the 4X4 versions with similar mileage, granted they’re a bit newer but they’re over double the price of what I paid for mine. Nah… fukk all that.

I have a lease and will just buy it out once it is done due to the value being above the residual. My mother’s car is due over the next few months and carmax will pay her 7,000 over the buy out number.

It’s like the housing market. You get more for your house, but you have to find a more expensive house with extra money you made.

The prices are truly crazy. I don’t mind paying a little extra. But your right. It’s damn near double and if your looking for a new vehicle the wait times are insane. My neighbor was attempting to buy the new minivan that looks like a SUV. Kia Carnival. He is on a wait list. It’s been 5 months :francis:

:sadcam: its been rough even browsing the used car sections...

Breh my homie a used car dealer and gave me an example. In 2018 he bought a used 2007 car at the dealer auction with 170k miles on it. In summer 2021 that same make, model and year car but with 180k miles was selling at the dealer auction for double what he paid for it in 2018.

shyt is wild man.

I was looking into getting one of those newer Honda Accord sport 2.0 last year(before Covid popped off). The prices I was seeing for a year under 2018-2019 used was 22-25k now them shyts like 28-30k. I’m gonna save more money and wait it out, but the prices have been going up.

Hell, I was looking at chargers at the time and they were 25-28k and now even the GT are going for 34-35k USED.
