This definitely happens tho. I went thru an ugly duckling phase, I was a quiet, awkward, head in the books, skinny lil thang. Even if someone is attracted to you, and you're awkward you may not realize it until later or you may just be suspiscious like, "why is he talkin to me?" because you are used to being overlooked.
