If He Was A RFA Why Was He In Trade Talks To BK In The First Place?

Because the Suns could've leveraged the extra year and/or money they could've offered Ayton in sign and trade options. For example, it's easier for Brooklyn to swallow giving up Durant with four years left if they're getting five years of Ayton back.

Indiana had been hanging around as a backup option, I think with them doing a sign and trade to swap Ayton for Turner. But Indiana got tired of waiting, and wanted to force Phoenix's hand, apparently.
