How could he/anyone not like Sugar Hill? That’s crazy, that’s one of the most likable rap songs ever imo, lol, I loved that song after the first like 10 seconds…still love it the same

Remember the times.

We all love If I Ruled The World and Street Dreams today but back in 96 Steve Stoute had to fight and convince Nas to do songs like that because he was afraid of selling out. I’m sure it was the same for AZ. Hell Biggie didn’t want to record Juicy and fought against it being a single.

Puffy, Steve Stoute, and AZ’s management had to convince these all time great MC’s to see the bigger picture because being seen as a crossover rapper ala MC Hammer or Vanilla Ice was seen as a death knell for authenticity. RZA had to convince Raekwon that Heaven & Hell was the right single for OBFCL.

Reminds me of Cam not liking Horse and Carriage.

Yeah, respect and authenticity was EVERYTHING back then. Even a slight miscalculation could have ended your career.

This would've been great under the old Drink Champs format. Because, I really don't want to hear Nore ask questions about The Firm album, acting like he didn't know, when dude was in those sessions, and in MIA with them. And he's definitely not gonna say anything about Sugar Hill being Pone's song first..or when/if mentioned, "I didn't know that" With that said, I'm still gonna watch.
