Is this a good period to be on the job market?

I used to have hundreds of recruiters as people to reach out to. In this new city, I got no one, how do you get in touch with recruiters if they don't respond to you?

What was your most recent experience unemployed? What did you do?

For me, I am planning to do what I always did. Treat being unemployed like an elite job. 8-5. Reaching out to recruiters. Trying to get as many interviews as possible. I already redid my resume. That plays a big role.

My first time on the market since Jan 2016. It's been along time and man, has a lot changed already.

IT job market stinks. Too many crap jobs at bottom feeding companies. They basically want someone to do the job of 3 people for the price of one.

They don't want to pay for decent training or certifications. And half of them want you to work onsite instead of remotely. My last job expected me to fill the role for a guy they laid off. And didn't even bother to offer me more money for the added responsibility until I put in my notice to quit. These companies definitely aren't desperate enough yet despite what the media says.

I haven't had a key interview much less an offer. This shyt is crazy but its demoralizing more than anything. I've spoken to recruiting companies but it's far and few compared to usual. I've grinded out earning 700+ resumes

I've gotten my shyt reviewed by so many professionals who say my shyt looks better than anyone they get. I am not getting it. This shyt sucks. It's like someone blackballed me but it don't make sense. I got a great name in my industry

I'm gonna throw job boards in the bushes and just use contacts I have in the industry. Most jobs get filled through word of mouth long before they get advertised online.

Usually the crap jobs that require a laundry list of qualifications tend to be posted online. These are the places that won't settle for anything less than a purple squirrel type candidate.

Have you tried posting for job leads on your LinkedIn timeline? I see people do it all the time and they usually get hits from people looking to fill roles. Or even feedback on resume critiques.

I'm looking into following certain security researchers in my line of work on Twitter. Because I heard that can also lead to job openings. I've already gotten tons of leads on training and jobs.

The government space doesn’t always pay as well as the private sector but its pretty easy to get on if you got certs and once you’re in and have clearances you can move around with ease. Its basically a separate job market and you don’t have to deal with some of the stupid shyt from the tech industry hiring practices.

Last job hunt effort for me lasted about 2 weeks for a 6 figure 100% remote position. Only did 1 recruiter call and 1 teams audio panel.

In Houston, there really isn't much available in gov't outside of Austin in this state.

From what I've seen, it's still a tough market. If you can pull out any niche skills from your experience, that might be helpful. Like a specific software or methodology that's only used in your industry. Any little way to separate yourself from competition will be helpful. Also remember, the economy is still in recovery, so it may be a slower process than normal.

I'm taking a certification exam for the software Qlik Sense on friday, if things go well I may get certified for other areas. Tableau and Power BI, from what I've seen are more popular, which is why I avoided them.
