1. It's not obvious to anyone who don't know me, hell, it's not obvious to anyone who does know me.So I do recruiting and do a lot of HR/legal right now.
1) is it apparent you are having health issues because while officially illegal that could be the factor hurting you in interviews. Definitely go with remote interviews if possible and do whatever is necessary to hide your health issues. Use Lighting, filters, make up…. It don’t matter they can’t tell.
2) I always recommend to people who recently ended work to spend that time getting a industry related certificate. It doesn’t have to be something serious like a PMP or a SHRM. Just something related to the field you can finish in a few weeks. You want to add those to your resume with the completion date. Hiring managers appreciate employees who are developing themselves.
3) depending on your prior employer you can have more success. If you worked for a well named employer in the industry that is more attractive than a smaller shop. However, if you worked for a small shop prior, going to big companies can be a hassle. Small shop to Small shop transitions are easier, but you need to oversell everything. Prestige is nice, but money seems more important. If anything negotiate for a better title (or a set plan for your eventual promotion) than the position requires and use that to jump ship in 1-2 years.
4) is your job remote workable? I helped someone I know in NY get hired by a Israeli company that is paying her $20,000 more annually. Not bragging she focused on key programs used by her data related job, and extended her search globally using those terms. If you can work remote your pool is endless.
5) LinkedIn is your best friend. There is nothing wrong reaching out to people in your industry you know and letting them know you are looking. You would be amazed at how many positions are out there that are open that the company is slacking on filling because they don’t have the HR support needed to hire for it. Current employees will want to help you because often that takes work off their plate.
Good luck in your search![]()
2. I have a PMP. I am planning on getting a CSM.
3. Bro, that's what I plan on doing if I get the offer with one of the small companies. Make me a director. Not only does that help when I speak to executives of smaller companies but it looks good on my resume. Right now, it feels like I am seen as overqualified for senior roles but I am not being considered tor director positions. Being a director or VP is the only route at this point that makes sense but you know, I am Black. When you are Black, it's hard to get in that lane if you know what I mean.
4. All of the ones left are remote. Because of my leadership skills and ability to handle global contacts, I've been remote before remote was a thing due to COVID.
5. While I reach out and have a lot of contacts, I could always do better and I am willing to do more. Hit me up via PM breh. Let's see what we could do together.
