Yea, altho i'm not a FPS or platformer guy, games like deathloop and kenzara were day-1 full price cops for me, just off principle.

Hell, i actually never opened Watch Dogs 2 from the case... but i bought it day 1 off the strength of a breh lead. <- Not a black studio in this case but again just the principle that if you're going to make the effort of a good (doesn't have to be great) game with a breh lead, i'm gonna put money behind it.

Same with this Blade game, it doesn't have to be Sony's Sider-Man in sales but imagine if it is or at least Devil May Cry type sales? that'd be one hell of a tale of black (french?) excellence coming out the mud

How did Ryan Coogler get to where he was? Fruitvale station. You can't wait for ready made stuff. I've been doing this indie thing for a while and you have to support the grass roots so they get to that point. If you're not you're doing yourself a disservice

Coogler eventually got handed the reigns to some big IP also. We don’t get the same trajectory for AAA gaming. No one really starts out making indie games and transitions to AAA, outside of like Larian maybe?

I have faith Blade will not only be well received critically, but will also sell well as a multiplatform title. I wouldn’t trust any other studio right now with that IP

Without clicking the link why do I get the feeling that "diversity" really just means gay shyt. :unimpressed:

That is what it means within this article but how many ‘non-diverse‘ games start anything but white people or asians?

i’m sure a black voice actor could make this same complaint

"Diverse" and "Non Diverse" are the same as it's always been to me other than there being way more gay stuff going on. I'll give props to the character creators being way better at black features in this era. :manny:

Honestly, after over a decade in the oven, that Rockstar made the MCs of the new GTA a generic white guy and his latina gf felt a bit of a regression. Was expecting something a bit more clever with the playable characters, coming off what they did with GTA 5.

But the harsh reality is playable black characters in AAA games will mostly either come from outside media IPs that are already popular (think superheroes, or "Yasuke") or games with character creators (Mass Effect, BG3, Cyberpunk, Fallout, etc.,) where the intention isn't to be black but to be "anyone". The obvious elephant in the room is there isn't much original black MCs

Nor will there be an incentive if the creatives making the games are non-black. Just like i'd have no incentive to make a game with a Pakistani mc. Until the decision makers behind the scenes look more like us, we'll be limited to the aforementioned options, with the occasional surprise like "CJ".
:russ:Who you thought the GTA 6 protagonists would be lol?

Eventually and we've seen it happen with CD Project Red as well as stated, again we don't get short cuts. Support indie black devs or take what the white majority gives you.

The industry needs to know how to better execute inclusivity. Its not about checking every racial or gender box, for every game you make. But making a wider variety of games. You can make it set in Europe with 99% white people. Fine, but also put out some games set in africa with 99% black people.

What they did instead, was try to act like every group of 5 people, is going to check off every box. 1 white guy, 1 indian guy 1 black guy, 1 gay dude, etc etc Thats not how it works in real life. I don't know any gay dudes that hang out with a bunch of straight dudes representing every country. Gay people usually run in their own circles. Indians hang out with other indians. etc etc

Black people will still have to wait years for a blade game, and when it finally comes out, you gonna give the spotlight to his daughter, her stud girlfriend and his token asian/latino friend.

Menawhile White people will continue to hate it because they hate diversity regardless.

Satisfying no one in the process

We don't have much data in gaming for some obvious mjpls reasons but historically (from CJ to Miles to Yasuke), a black male-led game that's well made typically does very well if not great sales wise... which is consistent with well made black male-led mainstream movies typically doing pretty well if not great in the box office, and a sizable portion of the most profitable musicians, comedians, and athletes being black men.

Now remember, up until 2018 Black Panther and Spider-Verse, there was still a stigma that black ppl couldn't bring ass to seats in theaters, even tho they brought ass to seats to arenas and stadiums for decades. It was just an excuse to limit funding and close doors. Same thing in gaming. Tried their hardest with Shadows, only for Yasuke to be just as profitable if not more so than any other AC game.

And so yea, I believe a well-made Blade game with all the proper bells and whistles of a AAA game would be a big hit. Now I don't know what type of budget they're working with (not that I expect a Sony Spidey budget) but i think it'll bare minimum be pound for pound quality work by them.

And up until spider-verse there was still a lot of negative sentiment (that people still have btw) around Miles as a character. It took spider-verse hitting a home run and then later on the Miles Morales game for most people to drop the narrative that he’s DEI spider-man and can’t sell his own merch.

Blade would be the breakout hit gaming needs on a AAA level to get our sinners/BP moment in gaming. I think they are gonna keep the budget and visual look of the other Arkane games like Dishonored and Deathloop. Which is more comic-like anyway.

White people love Blade. I wouldn't be surprised if a dev studio pitched a M rated Blade game but it was shot down by Marvel/Disney
