This was his 2000 yard season.

Notice how when he had a FB that year there was no more losing yards and dancing to get away from defenders or trying to outrun a million defensive backs being in that gimmick ass Wayne Fontes ass offense.

It was this season that he started finishing his runs and stopped getting caught from behind because there were less DBs on the field for him to outrun.

I never get why people STILL bring up the negative yards thing. He played in a dumb ass offense most of his career.

had Barry had a better coach, he would have had more 2000 yard seasons.

:childplease:

Barry got criticism b/c he would cut back & lose yards unnecessarily b/c he was always ready to juke & break a big run. It's like a hitter in baseball who's always trying to hit a homerun, but leads the league in strikeouts. That was Barry Sanders. IDK why you're trying to dismiss him being the NFL record holder for negative yds from scrimmage, but that was a part of his style so what your saying doesn't add up

And before you respond with an indignant sarcasm filled rebuttal, think about what you wrote breh. The "negative yards thing" was a part of his playing style, it wasn't b/c of the offense

I don't care about the criticism. i called it dumb because of the retarded offense he was playing. Those negative runs stopped when Bobby Ross came in and got him a FB.

I remember people saying Barry got faster towards the end of his career because he had longer touchdowns.....yeah....because they were out of that gimmick ass offense which had a million DBS on the field for him to try to outrun.

:childplease:

I don't care what dumb ass criticism people threw out there. He never ran like that until he played for Wayne Fontes...not in college and not when Bobby came in.

Like I said....show me the negative yards in the game I quoted during his 2000 yard season.m He stopped running backwards when they put him in the I.

Unless you're saying Fontes told him to run backwards like a knumbskull your argument is totally invalid.

Hey you...

Barry for most of his career was runnin' in that stupid-ass 4-wideout offense with no TEs or FBs to block. Him running backwards was reactionary trying to make some dollars out of 15 cents.

Other backs who dealt with that:

- Lorenzo White in Houston
- Every RB that got stuck in Atlanta - even muthafuccin' Hall Of Famer Eric dikkerson, and Ironhead.

As an RB in that kind of offense you had three choices:

1) try to push your way to positive yards when your pass-blocking line revealed it was a running play.
2) learn how to be a pass-catching back.
3) try to make 'em miss.

Barry was the greatest ever to do #3. Those negative yards are a misnomer.

those 1st two games were also the first two games of a new offense and they obviously made the changes to get him going. they didnt stick with the run in either game and afterwards they held their blocks longer to give him chances to make plays when nothing was initially there.

you also need to acknowledge that his negative carries went way down that 1997 season with a lead blocker.

North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
Jim Brown was better. Gayle Sayers was better. Walter Payton was better and Emmitt may not have been a better athlete but his longevity and accomplishments can't be overlooked.

Barry also went out like a bytch. He quit on his team
