he been looking like hot dookie
yea but he hasn't made $10MM in a year yet (makes $11MM next year), and will not ever make $20MM because he's locked up til 2023. that's a bargain when you look at the totality of the deal from start to finish.

Evan Longoria:
08:$0.5M, 09:$0.55M, 10:$0.95M, 11:$2M, 12:$4.5M, 13:$6M, 14:$7.5M, 15:$11M, 16:$11.5M

17:
$13M, 18:$13.5M, 19:$14.5M, 20:$15M, 21:$18.5M, 22:$19.5M, 23:$13M club option ($5M buyout)

The teams are raking in cash, it has to go somewhere :yeshrug:

It started when teams, even smaller market teams, were able to lock up their stars before free agency....even though very few of them got any discount. I do wonder when and what the downside of the cycle will be.

Teams will probably stop locking up players for so long past free agency, but the FA contracts really aren't going to change. It's easy to say the contracts are terrible, but if they didn't sign them with their current teams, they likely had very comparable offers from multiple other teams.
dead on

Goatganda the pearl of Africa
Mauer hit 324 last year though

I always thought Votto and Maur deals were weird...both guys who hit for average but hit an inordinate amount of little dribblers that somehow found holes...things that will not continue to happen over the life of a contract...

The twins have been so bad the last few years nobody cares...but Maur deal is one of the worst in baseball...dude never had any pop to him so the second he stopped hitting for average it was going to get ugly...AND he can't catch anymore...yikes...

Mauer can hit, but that contract is bad because he a first basemen now.

Thankfully it wasnt for nothing super long term, but Ryan Zimmernan's contract already looks bad.
