I don't think anyone's gonna debate either point necessarily, BUT, hardly does it merit any sort of chatter amongst awful contracts like the ones mentioned. Like I said, a 4 year deal at 37 years old, he gave you 2 good years, 1 he barely played and one where he sucked, his final year. All in all, you'll take it, because for whatever Jeter lost defensively, he had the bat to more than make up for it.

What's next? Manny Ramirez's tenure in Boston was a disaster because he couldn't field 310 feet of real estate?
Manny Ramirez was one of the best 5 hitters in the game in Boston.
A bit different.

fair enough about pointing out Jeter. But I like to mention him because people act like he's above criticism. And so...fukk that guy.

But maybe we can dwell on Carl Pavano instead.

Literally none of Jeter's Gold Gloves were legitimate.
And handing him 45 million dollars in that last contract was overpaying him by at least 25 million.
he earned every cent

im not gonna sit here and tell u he was goin for 15 mil a year on a competitive market. yanks threw him that check :yeshrug: the captain. he earned em that much

Nothing was worse than Kei Igawa. Nothing.

But most of these deals are over.

Kinda surprised they didn't bring up Tulo because he's 30 years old, has had 500 or more AB's in a season only 3 times, and has old man hip issues and still has 6 years $114 mil guaranteed + team option (that apparently nobody wants)

Nick Markakis' deal with Atlanta should be on the list just cuz none of it made sense. None of it.

Captain doesn't mean anything.
He was a defensive liability and overall in the bottom half of SS over the course of that contract.

He was maybe a 7 million per year player. He was extremely overpaid.
I don't give a shyt what he did in the previous 10 years.

Contracts should be given based on what your expected performance will be.
Jeter already got 189 million or whatever it was during his prime years. And even those years were overpaid to a degree.

You plug in any metric you want and with any one of about 15-18 shortstops, the Yankees win more games with one of them than with Derek Jeter over the last 4-5 years.
I'm not necessarily talking about Tulowitzki either.

The Yankees could have had Asdrubal Cabrera and won more games.

Kinda disappointed about Nick Markakis.

I'm not even talking about his contracts.
I just thought he would develop power and he never did.
He really should have been a 30-35 HR guy in Baltimore.

Breh,

Defense counts, breh.
It's not sexy, but all those right-field singles are offset by the grounder in the hole that he didn't get to.

:manny:

I know his defense was bad.

But saying he cost his team wins overall is nonsense. He had one season with a negative WAR overall.
