People who do these horrific acts don't act rationally. They don't sit don't with a calculator and punch out the numbers and see whether it's worth it. They either believe they won't get caught, or they don't care if they do get caught, or they're not even thinking about getting caught cause they're so wrapped up in the moment.


The main deterrent effect of the justice system is "Do perps actually get arrested and sentenced". So long as that is happening, that's as much deterrent as you're going to get. All the adding years shyt doesn't have any impact whatsoever.
