So many rumors but I'm 99% sure it's not going to be that Future shyt.
A Titanfall sequel is also out this fiscal calender. No way in hell EA greenlights two futuristic AAA shooters. Especially not ones by their two flagship FPS franchises.
And Especially not ones that would both feature mechs. They would be shooting themselves in both feet by doing so.

No semi automatic shotguns in ww2. fukk outta here1) 1944 could be an expansion similar to the Vietnam expansion of Bad Company 2. It would be EA's way of competing with the Cod 4 remaster.

Why would DICE make 2144 when The Final Stand servers are barely used on consoles? Also, between Advanced Warfare, Halo, Gears, Destiny, and, Ea's other flagship FPS franchise, Titanfall, the market is over saturated with gritty futuristic shooters.
Plus, a WW2 setting would be the return to great Rush centered maps.
It also allows for greater diversity in the map settings. (Campaigns in Europe, Africa, the Pacific, and Russia)
Gameplay wise, It would nerf the vehicles and the combat would be prinarily infantry based. That would lead to more competitive Rush matches and more importantly, it would stress the importance of team work in Conquest.
Overall BF 1944 would be a much more intense game than BF4.

I don't want future shyt but I also don't want to regress back to ww2 again, that's just a cop out and fan service for people complaining about future shooters. Plus we already have 8000 of them.

I would imagine shotguns would just be the pump action ones like the trench gun in cod world at war.
