Would you buy GTA VI for 100 US Dollars?

  • yes, I would, it’s GTA

The cost of subscription gaming is also going up
The cost of everything goes up but I'd say it's more expensive to spend $100 on an individual game when that same amount could get you 4-5 months of a library of hundreds at rack rate and we'll over a year with Game Pass Core conversion getting those cards on a sale.

This is just like Trump winning and crashing the stock market. Let the world burn for electing him.

thats only if you think owning your games at full price is a lesser option then renting them for a over a couple hundred a year

most people aren’t gonna drop one tear for the death of subscription gaming in its current form

No, I didn’t love GTAV like everybody else did. It was fine. I didn’t proceed to play the multiplayer for 10 straight years. Not worth $100 to me (if it’s worth 100 to you that’s wonderful). I would wait it out to see if it went on sale.

That’s also proof that Nintendo’s strategy of never dropping prices is successfully conditioning me and other customers just buy their shyt right away:russ:

I will say one difference between this notional scenario and Nintendo’s $80 Mario Kart…GTAVI is going to have microtransactions. Charging $100 for a game that will have microtransactions is pretty wild (but may well be the norm one day).

Mario Kart 8 deluxe had seasonal passes also

and so did Smash Bros, Splatoon 3, Animal Crossing, etc.

Well hold on. That's just DLC. Flat, one time purchases that offer new gameplay content.

Microtransctions = using a real currency to buy a fake currency to then use on individuals items, stats, etc. Shark bucks are like the marquee example of microtransactions.

Its all semantics.

at the end of the day you are being sold something for full price with extra content purchases on top of it. There are plenty of games that will sell you a full priced game and give you all the additional DLC for free, like Astro Bot or No Man’s Sky.

Well, maybe I'm splitting hairs, but I always found proper DLC to be a better value (or at least a more transparent transaction) than these "fake premium currency" scams. Mario Kart 8's $20 DLC gave us 64 tracks (albeit remastered from older titles with a couple news ones) and a couple new characters.

$20 GTAV in sharkbucks gives you a couple Lamborghinis and clothes for your virtual character. $20 in NBA 2K gives you VC so your avatar can have a slightly higher chance at dunking successfully..until the next 2K is released and you have to buy that stat upgrade again.

I think the content in question matters. But hey, the market has spoken: Take Two's micro transactions are a roaring success and they're a Fortune 500 company now. WTF do I know :yeshrug:

Then let them drop tears for game price acceleration.

I pay my $99 a year for Spotify and I don't care about owning the music. I'd like the same with games. I'd rather spend $300 a year on a subscription service and get access to a full library of 100s of games than spend $300 a year and get 3-4 full price $80-$100 games.

that would make sense if every 3rd party game was added to a subscription (which would also be horrible) but you’re still buying at least a half dozen games a year on top of that subscription.

…and i doubt you of all people even play enough games per year to care.
