Nah , it's different than you are presenting it.
It's a child being controlled by his mother after separation. And the name change is kinda illegal cause the father has legal rights and needs to be consulted.
It's moreso an issue of the father being disconnected from a petty mother.

Things that stood out:
He said he wasn't connected to his son at the moment.
He said he has to make up for loss time.
He said he has to not only address the name change situation but the situation in general (not seeing his son) the correct way (probably through the courts).
Most importantly he didn't know this information.
Whatever the reason is he's not seeing his son, I would be more angry at not seeing the son than the name change. That prob should've been approached first unless the beef is between he and the child instead of he and the mother.

sounds like manipulation. i'm not gonna shyt on him as a father without knowing the full story, it really depends how old the kid is. also i feel like a son can be manipulated up until a certain age then they will naturally seek out their father to see what's really up with him for themselves.
