He said he wasn't connected to his son at the moment.
He said he has to make up for loss time.
He said he has to not only address the name change situation but the situation in general (not seeing his son) the correct way (probably through the courts).
Most importantly he didn't know this information.

Whatever the reason is he's not seeing his son, I would be more angry at not seeing the son than the name change. That prob should've been approached first unless the beef is between he and the child instead of he and the mother.
