Tomlin isn't about to let him learn on the job when there's questions about him still being the head coach. He wants to win now so let Russ start and Fields gets what he didn't get in Chicago which is a veteran to learn from and good coaching.

Fields has the physical tools and still has a high ceiling but he needs to speed up his processing and throw with anticipation. Sitting will give him a chance to get better at those things so he's ready when it's his time.

They can still use him for short yardage and goal line plays so he will contribute while not starting.

He may have better physical tools especially now that Russ' athleticism has declined but that doesn't necessarily mean he's the better QB at this point


Sitting for a while and benefitting from some good coaching may be what’s best for Fields in the long term

Hilariously ironic that you mention how nikkas didn't watch the games yet fail to mention that 2 of those bears wins you're attributing to Fields was actually won by Bagent... So Fields won 5 of 13, Russ won 7 out of 15.


Russ may not be a very good NFL QB anymore, but Fields never has been... Both are better than the shytty point you just tried to make though
