Said months ago that Justin Fields has little trade value because most teams see him as a backup with that said this is the best situation for him long term. What does that mean for Mason Rudolph though?

Rudolph signed with Tennessee already.

why couldn’t the bears just build this offense around fields to begin with :dahell:

But has given the keys to Caleb

These weapons are crazy for a rookie.
They better know what they’re doing. People are worried about Fields, but Caleb is the one with the target on his back now. Justin can sit behind Russ and wait for a possible dope comeback story. Good luck to Caleb trying to revive a franchise that’s been begging to be revived.

Fields is not good!! I repeat, Fields is not good!! You dont pass up a potential elite QB to stay with a QB that has proven to be substandard..

He's talented though and hasn't really had any support from the coaches that the Bears hired. He was always getting a second shot. No one should be upset by this trade and I bet Tomlin told Russ that he has this one year guaranteed as a starter and it'll be a competition next off season.

its already interesting to see what they do with the fifth year option on Fields
Yeah, there's zero chance they exercise it come May and I can't see them doing the same thing GB did with Love. More than likely they decline it and let him hit free agency. If Russ goes back to playing like Seattle Russ they might extend him, but if it doesn't work out and Fields is starting at some point showing promise it likely wouldn't be require throwing a significant contract to re-sign him.

Desmond Ridder commanded more straight up equity than fields. That tells me the league is not only racist, but stupid, lazy, and uninventive. You can think Fields is ass but on no planet is he worse than Ridder
Remember, how no team wanted to sign Lamar Jackson? Atlanta was one of the teams who passed on Lamar (who’s now a 2x MVP) and they go and sign Cousins to a $150M deal coming off an Achilles tear? :unimpressed:

The value also plummeted when QB-needy teams started to take QB's like Sam Darnold.

The longer Free Agency went on the worse dude's value got. Bears needed to do something sooner imo if they wanted something more than a 6th.

shyt, maybe they did but teams told them they weren't interested. It's just a tough spot, you got a QB who at best showed glimpses and is most likely expecting a $40 mil/year contract. Too many unknowns.

Like I said, it's up to Fields now, many people said Pittsburgh was the ideal landing spot so the excuses are pretty much gone. Time to show tf out in training camp from day one. If you don't earn the starting spot, you need to go the fukk off in pre-season to get the crowd interested and if you ever get a chance to during the season you need to maximize it the most you can.

I absolutely think he can earn that starting spot and ball out to be a respected NFL starting QB, but it won't be because he has "potential". It'll only happen if he actually does something on that field consistently to convince GM's and coaches that's someone who can give $40 mil/year to.

Next offseason both Russ and presumably Fields (unless Steelers pick up his fifth year option) will be free agents.

PITT was always my favorite landing spot for Justin.
HOF coach, first class organization.

I dont think Poles passed on better deals for Justin (at least I hope), time simply ran on out Justin & the Bears. Getting the #1 overall pick in a draft with a talen like Caleb Williams, this was how it was always going to end. Everyone knew they werent passing on the opportunity to take Caleb.

Justin was put into a shyt siutation in Chicaho his first year. He was playing under Nagy, who was a lame duck coach, that choose to priortize starting Andy f'ing Dalton to try and win a couple extra games and save his job, than to invest into developing Justin Fields.

Then Poles came in and did the right thing by tearing down what Ryan Pace & Nagy built - which was an old, expensive and bad roster. So year 2 for Justin, he had no talent around him. Tough spot for the guy to develop and grow, but the Bears were obviously wise to tear down & rebuild (look at their outlook going into next season)

It sucks Justin cant try to prove himself now with the talent we have brought in, but the timing just screwed him in Chicago. If the Panthers werent absolute dog shyt and landed in the 5th pick, we probably arent even having this convo today. Justin is prob the guy and we're talking about what WR we are drafting @ #5 and who we take @ #9 - all the dominoes fell against him.

Hopefully he can get a chance to battle Russ for that starting spot. PITT owes Russ nothing and they dont have any $$ invested into him. Make it an open competition

Nah the Steelers always good or decent no matter the QB. Mike Tomlin been coaching since 2007 and never had a losing record. I say that as an Bengals fan, you can never take the Steelers lightly. All they needed is an QB. They been playing a washed Big Ben, Mitch Trubisky, Mason Rudolph and Kenny Pickett. They QB room got light years better with Russell Wilson and Justin Fields.
As a Ravens fan, “doing right by Fields” is:
-staying in the division, 2 revenge games a season
-Kevin O’Connell as (established offensive coach)
-Justin Jefferson, Addison, Hockensen
-Direct path to QB1
-They been mediocre with 1 playoff win with Cousins (little to no pressure)

Raiders, Broncos offer direct path to QB1. Don’t have to split starter reps. Playbook designed to his strengths instead of accommodating another potential QB1.

Trading to Pittsburgh Steelers, is the best for the Bears. Poles GM career is on the line.

Honestly, Thank God for Ozzie Newsome, John Harbaugh, and Greg Roman. This could’ve easily been Lamar’s fate without a tremendous franchise behind him. Built a system around his elite, god given talents and let him grow into the QB he is today. The bears literally scraped the team down to the bones in Justin’s first year. Highest turn over in the league. Gave him zero weapons, no offensive line and fired his head coach. Then gave him a OC that tried to turn him into Aaron Rodgers. Thank God he’s with a brother now. Hope he sits back, learns all he can from Russ, and gets to work

It's the same Steelers front office that kept Mason Rudolph employed for 5 seasons even though everyone here knew what he was. They extended Trubisky career by several years for no reason too. They've always been exceptionally patient with their younger QB choices. They're not bringing Fields onboard to kick him out after a season as a backup.

I doubt they pick up the option, but he won't have tape to go anywhere else as a starter unless Russ gets hurt and there's no way they'll have a top pick next draft for a QB.
