Im using Reason and an Akai MPK Mini 3.
Anyways I’m trying to I wouldn’t say recreate since I want to add my own spin on the drum programming.

I got the sample and decent drums too so I’m not using stock drums.
I understand kick starts on the 1 and goes to the 4 afterwards.
Snare on the 3.
When it comes to hi hats, even quantized it don’t sound tough. Sounds trash. Advice please.

If you are using pads for drums, listen to the beat while tapping your fingers on the table just for hihats (as practice) untill you feel you got it,then start the drums from scratch, put the sample on mute, turn on the metronome and go by the feel. You can even slow down the tempo, lay down the hihats, then speed it up afterwards.
If you are using redrum as a step sequencer, play the loop and go one hihat at a time until you got it right. It will be long but you will learn a lot along the way as far as counting beats and rhythm.

I heard that track you posted. Try putting the 32nd note hats on the 4th beat of every bar.
Timbs sample is chopped and / or warped to make it even timed. The loop you used has uneven timing / swing - this is what is throwing the drum programming off I think.
Not familiar with Reason, but in MPC would chop the sample and try to line up to the quarter notes better. In Ableton would manually add warp markers and warp it straight to 130.

Do you mean put it at 65? I have it at 130bpm which the bpm for both the ginuwine song and sample courtesy of tunebat.com

I can’t read notation neither but I heard reading drum notation is way easier and faster than standard notation. Your “tablature” for lack of better word is confusing.
1-1-1 implied it’s layered with 3 hi hats? How do you go from 3 back to 1? Does the slash imply a change in bar?
Your tablature for mine is even more confusing. I have the standard hi hat roll of 2’s I guess is a way of putting it and quantized.

If you look on top of the pic you will see how the beats are counted (1, 2, 3,...) And you will see little lines between the numbers that i would refer as 1.1 (the one where it has 1 written), 1.2, 1.3, 1.4...to 1.8 and the next one after that would be 2.1 and so on...Do you mean put it at 65? If you put hi hats at those spots and copy all the way to 4, and loop that, it will give you a starting point.
you might need someone to show you in person. Im no pro and admittedly i don't know exact notations but i think you are trying to do too much at the same time and too fast. Start with kick and snare without the breakdowns, then do the hihats and focus on the markers. Once you have both, do the breakdowns.
I find redrum harder so I’m ruling that out for now. Alright will practice with pads and look up tutorials more on drums with reason. This bullshyt not letting me change the velocity. Every other DAW lets you just slide it instantly.

when I google measurements of notes or beats I get standard music theory on the basic shyt like time signature or 4 beats in a bar simple bullshyt. I want to learn properly.
So I can keep my questions focused more on struggle of recreating shyt by ear.
All I got is reason and fl 20. I’ve always been more of a melody maker or loop with the samples. Just now trying to learn chopping samples and drum programming whether it’s pads or click in.
exactly this. I just sampled bars 3+4 from intro of Stevie Visions and got a loop more similar to timbs. OP where you find your sample?
