I'm in Puerto Rico right now in a place called Loiza. It's mostly "black". It tripped me out that damn near 80% of Puerto Ricans identify as white. nikkas blacker than me identify as white and that's true for most of Latin America.
There is no black - brown alliance. It's a tool used by Latinos and misguided black Americans to displace black Americans by playing on black American insecurity.
Black Americans are not respected politically by any group because we y'all just let any body into our circle.

Puerto Ricans and Dominicans are the most treacherous of the latino "allies" because they play both side of the fence more than any other latino group. I've said for a time now that those Hispanics are no friend to Black folks.

They encompass a wide array of Latin immigrants those Cuban and Puerto Ricans even some Dominicans as well could pass for Whites and identify more with White culture.

The Mexicans who are also Hispanic seem to typically be lower in social status and viewed a little differently from their Hispanic cousins across the water.

I personally don't believe Black people splintering off in small subgroups is the answer to solving that problem. White folks are always going to pursue a common enemy to look down on right now it's Blacks and Mexicans trying to enter at the border illegally. I remember a time when it was only Blacks though.

In time those others will get their wake up call to when that rhetoric loses steam and White folks are ready to find a new enemy, and it will eventually happen.

It's much, much deeper than 'social status', breh. Being 'Black' automatically relegates you to an 'underclass' in the West that was created as a direct result of slavery in America in the 17th Century. That's why African immigrants get offended when we refer to them as Black. Not only is it totally ignoring their own cultural/ethnic identities they created millenia ago, but they actually LOSE heirarchical status being lumped-in with us.​
