They were selling XYZ and people shopped online and ended up buying QRS. For example if you wanted measuring cups, you go into BBY and they have OXO stainless steel measuring cups for 22 bucks, same price as Amazon, Target, etc.... People then go to Amazon and find some cheap weird brand from China thats only 10 bucks and buy that then complain that BBY was too expensive. No, the measuring cups werent too expensive, folks decided to buy some knockoff junk from China instead.

We are definitely in a race to the bottom where the only products that will exist are really high end products regular folks wont see and super cheap crap from China people are buying online. People are taking the easy way out and just blaming the store when the real issue is the US consumer based economy is increasingly propped up on very cheap goods from China. Folks just want the cheapest thing they can get.

Speaking for myself, I'm a comparison shopper. I comparison shop for everything! BBY failed to realize they weren't special. The products they offered weren't speciality products or unique products. If I can find the exact same brand or the specific thing I'm looking for at a better price point, I'm buying it, especially if the quality is on point

There is no At Home or HomeGoods in your area?

At Home doesnt sell name brand stuff, its all bargain tier products. That spot is only good for seasonal decor or cheap shyt that only needs to hold up for a year.

HomeGoods sells out of season, overstock, and slightly damaged products. Thats not a dependable place to buy anything, its a see what they got this week then come back next week when stock rotates.

The store layout was weird and it just had too much shyt in there. When it comes to home goods, most people just want to get something reasonably priced and be in and out. And places like Target has nice stuff for better prices. And there’s places like Williams and Sonoma for higher priced gift items with a sleeker layout. I always felt overwhelmed in there.

The trick to beating Amazon is to pick a category and own it. Electronics, household goods...whatever.

Basically be Amazon in a popular segment of shopping and beat Amazon in that area. You need multiple businesses to do that but it could take awhile. Sort of like cable vs streaming. Right now Amazon is basically Walmart but for online retail.

Christmas Tree Shops preparing to file for bankruptcy, report say

Christmas Tree Shops, the well-known New England home decor retailer, is reportedly getting ready to file for bankruptcy.

The Wall Street Journal, citing "people familiar with the matter," reports that the Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing could happen as soon as this weekend. The newspaper said the company has hired law firm Murphy & King in Boston.

Christmas Tree Shops were owned by recently bankrupt Bed Bath & Beyonduntil 2020. The chain got its start on Cape Cod 50 years ago.
