However, blaming AP for playing is ridiculous. How does him not playing show he "cared" and is "mourning?"
I don't think anyone is blaming him for playing. I think the "playing" is the least of the problem.

I think what's happening is that people feel like the "Woe is AP!" is pointless since (a) he participated in making the kid irresponsibly (b) he didn't give a fukk about the kid enough to the point to do anything to change his situation/protect him while he was alive (I'll say he may have bought him things, gave the mom money, but there's no other protection like being with your good father.)

He's your average guy. All of the broadcast trying to make him more than human or some kind of sympathetic character is great emotional content, which is good for production purposes, but pointless in reality. This is for all entertainers/athletes.

He plays a big role in this kid's suffering and death as well: Not being there to protect him and shelter him like a father should.

Even if he does feel bad, it's still is pretty pointless given the fact that he had ample time to change the situation and did nothing.

Did he really have ample time to change the situation, though? He supposedly only knew about the child for a few months. And secondly, did he know the child's mother was dating a psycho? It's very possible that he didn't.

I do agree that the media is being sensationalistic by running with the mournful AP story, and he is doing himself a disservice by playing into it. He needs better PR people.

It only takes a couple of hours to buy plane tickets and book a flight. And I'm pretty sure if you're a multi-millionaire the apartment rental process is very quick. To deny such would just be making excuses for the lack of responsibility constantly promoted by black men when it comes to their children.

If we are tired of these stereotypes, we have to stop sticking up for these people who play into every single one of them and perpetuate them on a national level. White people will judge no matter what, but it doesn't give us much room to budge when we support these people ourselves. It's especially not good for other black boys who look up to him.

Who's to say he didn't make that attempt? It's quite possible that he didn't, but we don't know this, so I feel we're jumping to conclusions without knowing the details.

And when talking about the situation, I thought we were referring to his child living with a woman with an abusive bf? It's very conceivable that he didn't know that.

As for us having kids out of wedlock...yeah, I'm tired of it too...but I'm also an offender, a very unlikely offender (so they say), but an offender nonetheless, and I in no way shape or form condone it or defend it.

Regardless, I think most men father best when their child either lives (a) with them or (b) near them. Not a state away. I'm saying he could have changed that if he wanted to.

Anyway, both of them are at fault, because they both created something irresponsibly and never thought to change and begin to act responsibly.

Exactly! Lost in all of this is the fact he probably cheated on his GF seeing as the kid was 2 years old.

This niggga pulled the wool over every bodies eyes!

And he cared even a lil, he would have known who is around his child or who lives with his child and what kind of situation that he is in
