I can't knock that. But it sounds expensive.

Grades are correlated to intelligence. Smarter people get higher grades and dumber people get lower grades or drop out. Sometimes people fall through the cracks but this is generally the trend. In the end the people who get higher grades end up making more money than the people who get lower grades and drop out. Sometimes this isn't the case, but generally it is.
You'll find that the professions that make the most money--Wall Street traders, doctors, corporate lawyers, scientists, programmers, engineers etc-- are regarded as smarter than average and generally receved higher grades in school. In many cases, high academic ability is required to gain entry into these professions (medical school, law school, math, etc).
I disagree. Scholastic succes, in America at least, is more about memory than intelligence in my opinion.

A lot of things are expensive.
Some people choose to spend their money driving a BMW (when they could be driving a more affordable car), or have a collection of expensive shoes, or spend money traveling. No harm in getting that extra piece of paper. If you're going to dedicate your time learning about something extensively, why not?

You can obtain the best education in life by getting a passport to travel. There are many things in life that cannot simply be put in the chapters of a book.
True, a lot of things are expensive. For me though, I'm only puttin' that much money towards assets. And generally, I don't see formal education as an asset. Many folks have to go into debt acquiring it. That debt increases the need for that job. And most jobs don't build wealth. I'm tryin' to break free of that cycle.

Sometimes poor people with otherwise high scholastic ability or potential find themselves without options as a function of poor circumstance (i.e. growing up in a disadvantaged household with little money and dangerous allures), which sometimes explains the phenomenon whereupon you find a smart person selling drugs, or gangbanging, or driving a truck.

Travel has nothing in itself to do with education. Just moving from one piece of land to another is not the same as getting educated. This is just locomotion. There are celebrities who have all over the world and are ignorant as the day is long. Education is instruction in the arts, math and science, not gallivanting about like a lost puppy and knowing about as much as one.

Right. That is somewhat true. Traveling will allow you to speak of cultures, traditions and experiences throughout history right? I am not saying that if you travel it would automatically make you a scholar, however there is a lot more to learn by experiencing things first hand rather through short form text.
Gotta disagree with that. Culture, religion/spirituality, geography, language...

People are exposed to different religions and cultures, but instead of choosing to learn about them, they judge them. Being exposed to vs understanding are not the same.

An ignorant and benighted man who knows 5 languages and experiences 5 cultures only knows 5 different tongues in which to reveal himself ignorant and benighted. He will write the same wrong answers in Spanish as he does in French -- and fail every time to the one man who writes the correct answer in English. Education is not how many languages one knows or cultures he experiences, but how much one knows in general.
Agreed, but put that in context with previous posts. Assuming one is travelling to learn, some of the best knowledge is to be had from the source.
