here's the more important thing, texting allows people to present a very curated version of themselves, (like social media)

-always the funny joke or the right emoji, always the right timed response, always the cute meme, always the right punctuation,

but in person and phone convos aren't like that, there are awkward pauses, body language, people stutter and fumble over sentences, I sometimes fold my arms over my chest, touch my neck or lick my lips too much when I'm flirting, girls stumble over words, act super awkward sometimes in person, you catch them walking the dog looking like they just woke up---that's all normal shyt, but texting makes you way more presentable. The right amount of cute, sexy, whatever.

I leave my read receipts on so these hoes know exactly when I stopped giving af
:manny:
Basically. Besides, everybody knows people check messages REGARDLESS of read receipts. If I send a message and half the day goes by I kno that mfer saw it regardless of read receipts.

Saw a statistic once that said most people read your text within 90 seconds, that was in 2016 or so

but, I see girls phones sometimes, who have 47 missed calls, and let's just say like 33 messages they haven't read, like the literal red alerts.

and that is just the message/call. No mention of everything else.

Why is this considered acceptable by so many people? This always baffled me

It's like hearing someone talk to you in person, then you just walk away
:mindblown:

Taking it a step further, back when people wrote letters to each other. It's like reading a letter someone sent you, and ignoring it. Never sending one back. Just reading it, then throwing it away

Do people who do this see this the same way? Is it lack of emotional maturity? Lack of empathy? One of the many downfalls of the smartphone social media internet era

And to the "I'm too busy I don't have time to be a decent human and acknowledge communication" independent cool alpha humans, if you have time to read it, then you have time to at least say, at some point, that you can't respond at length. Or say you aren't in the mood. Anything. A simple sentence

I'm not talking texts that don't need to be responded to. I'm talking questions asked, serious statements, just shyt texted that makes sense to be replied to

It doesn't affect me like it used to. But it still confuses me. I wrote a research essay in undergrad Psych on a subject adjacent to this. Maybe I was just raised differently than other people
:unimpressed:
If someone leaves you on read, take it as a good thing. Now you know the character of that person. You have a choice to completely walk away from this person. If you don’t and continue to deal with this person knowing their character, whatever happens to you in the future is your fault.

...i don't think i have enough sass to stand in front of someone and give them my undivided attention, let them finish, then i turn and walk away.

Facts, Ill drop that notifications/settings drawer down w/ the quickness before I actually read it. Hell, if I cant read the whole thing, I just turn it to landscape mode to get the full msg.
