Believe it or not but back in 94 this now obscure album received more airplay than Illmatic.

I swear I thought this thread was about Lucas with the lid off

Now this shyt got more mainstream play in 94 than Illmatic singles. This video was on The Box daily every hour. I remember back in 2008 a younger friend asking me about the name of this song and I was the only person he met that remembers it.

Exactly! He's married to Adriana Evans. I copped her first album when I was a kid.

Production on that was dope!
yooo GTFOH!!! I didn't know that!! She was a part of that mid to late 2000s underground "neo soul" movement (I hate that term neo soul). I used to like her, Monica Blair, Kindred family Soul, United Soul, and others.

It took years before it was heralded as a classic which caused millions of heads to revisit it.

This is some of the stupidest shyt I’ve ever read on here.

The only way this could even make sense is it’s from a mainstream perspective, someone who only liked shyt that was played non stop on the radio.

People who were passionate about hip hop (and would’ve been on message boards like this, had they existed at the time) were raving about this shyt. Everything Nas did in 94 & 95 was hyped to the fullest, of course people who jumped on the bandwagon when he dropped a song with Lauren Hill wouldn’t know about that.

Truth!

I think I copped her first album in like '97-'98. She had a lot of beats that sounded like Hip Hop tracks, but she was just singing over them. And BET used to play her videos a lot. So I was into her sound. Mad years later, I found out she was married to dude and he had been doing her production the whole time, lol. Which made a lot of sense!

Not a weak album in her catalog, wish she would drop more often. As far as the first joint Loud records dropped the ball severely with the project/and promotion. :beli:

Yeah, they didn't know what to do with her.

She kinda dropped at the perfect time for the music she was making too, but she needed more push for that. Loud wasn't built to get behind an R&B act. And she was just as dope as the other singers who were coming out at the time.
