I swear there's no effort in cinematography anymore:wow:. Even if the budget is not on par, a perfect shot or visual effect makes a hell of a lot of a difference.

If you have the chance, check out the DVD version with commentary from Hype. I thought that the film was jus aight at first, but when you get to actually peep his thought process behind the film and the fact that a lot of it was switched up and left out, you appreciate it a lot more. Wish he got to work on more films because he really captured the spirit of "the culture" beautifully.

factssss :umad:

For those who have never saw this....King Magazine did The Oral History of Belly and the making of it, covering everything that went wrong. They were going to have Gwen Stefani end up beheaded. There was so much crazy shyt that got left out.

Belly Oral History

JOHNSON: That movie never came out like how the script reads. Belly is probably one of the illest scripts, profound at that, because the message they were sending was crazy. If Belly got shot the way it was supposed to, couldn’t nothing touch that. No American Gangster, no Wire episode. Nothing in this generation, or in our lifetime, would be able to top that. It was supposed to be implemented earlier in the film why X decided not to [kill the minister]. The way it is now, it’s like, all of a sudden he caught a heart?

BODDEN: The idea of [not killing Rev. Saviour] came from Farrakhan himself. He was like, “Absolutely not. No way can you do that. You need positive role models.” Hype had met with Farrakhan out of respect, and he gave Hype some insight and wisdom. Hype decided to go with the minister’s words.

LITTLE X (VISUAL CONSULTANT): The real story is about this guy who’s lived this violent life joining a Nation of Islam–type organization, under direction from the government to get at the leader and kill [him]. That’s the story. When DMX got arrested, that should have been in the first 30 minutes.

damn shame how hype never got another director look after this. so many talentless dudes in hollywood that get continue to get looks even after a flop. we already know what it is...

he should find a hungry up and coming screenwriter and go the crowdfunding route. i'd definitely donate
