There are racist Democrats and Repubs obviously but Repubs embrace and serve a racist constituency and run on a platform of racist policies.

That famous LBJ quote (I'm assuming the one about having the ******s voting for us years) isn't even confirmed as a real quote. Even if he really did say that and he was a racist, I don't really care because I would assume any white man raised in Texas in the first part of the 20th century is a racist, and LBJ was probably the best President for black people policy-wise ever.

He hasn't been hijacked, and he's still a brilliant and an honorable success story. It's just that we really didn't know this side of him and it took a campaign to see this side of him. I imagine many of the people we view as success stories would cause us to raise an eyebrow if given a completely, unfiltered, and unadulterated look at their lives and views. I think Darrell Issa summed it up about right though.
