The interviewer was definitely trying to chop him down rather than actually talk to him so I get why he got defensive. But it's his program and he can do whatever he wants. It just shows how regressive the Republican Party is. I don't know much about British politics. But all he asked was what policies have the Right brought forth to Congress (besides tax breaks and deregulation) as all momentum has come from the Democrats in recent years. It's a valid question. Shapiro, like most Republicans, couldn't answer because they're just there to agitate and provoke.

Andrew Neil is a veteran. He has decades of experience interviewing politicians. Shapiro was trying to intellectually spar with a master of his trade.

Shapiro is only intelligent to those who think talking fast and repeating empty rhetoric, are legitimate debating skills. That might work with college students but not educated veteran journalists.

A lot of people who don't follow the BBC or UK journalism aren't getting that this is how they conduct many of their interviews - "devil's advocacy". You'll even see Neil try to slow Ben down and explain to him that if Ben was pro-choice he'd be getting asked questions on the other end of the spectrum.

But it was too late, the reptile part of Ben's brain locked into confrontation mode. It should have been light work for an actually intellectual debater to respond to Neil. But it turned into Ben pulling out his Youtube Debate Tricks that works on unprepared college kids and gets ad clicks. So he started name-calling Neil a leftist (laughable) and talking about how much more popular he is than Neil (as if anyone in the damn UK knows wtf Ben Shapiro is).

The even sadder part is that even tho Ben went on twitter and took the L, a lot of people are still saying "The journalist was trying to be antagonistic!"

I can't even stomach Joe Rogan now...he's had way to many alt-right figureheads and virtue signalers on his podcast for my comfort. He claims to be about hearing out people and both sides but rarely presenting a nuanced picture that presents both sides. The fact that he's entertained Shapiro, Jordan Peterson, Tim Pool, Alex Jones, and other disgusting people I could care less for when he interviews a Killer Mike or Lennox Lewis.

Yep, just how BBC interviews go. Hard Talk was one of my fav shows in my 20s. The same person could interview a Hamas leader and then the most right Zionist politician and have both uncomfortable. Dude was clearly unprepared since almost everything I've seen of him is going at random College students. He ran in to someone who's been in journalism longer than he's been alive.

It's all about being able to defend your position. If you can't, it's probably a weak position.

You’re absolutely right. I think he knkes his audience is a bunch of angry, disgruntled white guys who hate any and every one and he caters to them.

Like I said, I give him the occasional listen, but at this point, I should just stop listening to his show all together.

What makes it funny is the conservative talking head was using charged language literally to go into Shapiro's wheelhouse of lining up the charged language, dancing around it, and then brushing aside the moral concern through his facile "fact based ideology". He was serving him up underhanded and this stupid nerd still wigged the fukk out when he couldn't see that.

Shapiro is a charlatan who manipulates vulnerable kids who don't know better and goes to campuses riling up people until they have a justifiable moral outrage towards him (they edit the hour of goading he does out of most of his videos) to "DESTROY" them. It's childish, he's a child.
