Yeah it seems like he's been living a $30M/yr lifestyle since signing that max two years ago, but he's only actually gotten 1 full year of the max. He's earned $57M in total NBA salary and $20M from Nike. Maybe another $10-12M in miscellaneous endorsements. $80M total, probably $40-50M after taxes and agent. When you're buying $20M houses and $2M cars, money goes fast.

Reminds me of this Shaq interview. Doesn't matter who you are, you have to watch your money and spend wisely.

I don't think he's broke,

But if you plan your life around receiving $30m a year and that money doesn't come in, things can get ugly quick. :francis:
Yeah, “broke” is such a relative term. I doubt Ben Simmons is about to wake up with $22 left in his checking account but I wouldn’t he surprised at all if he never actually financially prepared for this situation and therefore never scaled back his lifestyle. I’m pretty sure Ben went into this thinking he was never actually not gonna get paid.

I don't believe it, because if this dude is broke in 3 months without a NBA check, he got bigger issues than I imagined lol

:picard: 3 months and broke sounds crazy

If he was in the NFL I'd believe it. But NBA? Nah. Yes brehs go broke all the time, and they live check to check...but his contract/salary should mean he's good. Not to mention being able to live off credit, which a lot of ball players do.

Do I believe he's living beyond his means and perhaps was trying too hard to keep up with the Jenner chick, who has way more money than he does? Sure. But it's way too early for me to believe he's broke. I think this is simply someone - the team, local reporters, etc - throwing shyt out in response to the shyt Simmons' camp throws out. Like to neutralize the madness.
Y'all gotta remember he's not a vet like that. He's had his rookie deal and only 1 year of the max extension, if he's a butterfinger ass dude then this is easy. Now if he was on his second big contract then it would be hard to believe.

This is speculation guys. And a lot of that money will be retuned to him if he gets traded or returns to the team.

That’s not necessarily true and the NBPA has already told him that he can’t get back what he lost. Yes, Philly stopped fining him when he first mentioned his mental health, but he couldn’t even bother to meet their simple stipulations to even have a valid argument in getting that money back.

Short term broke...I believe it...dude is missing a ton of money he should have made if he was playing basketball right now...

Long term broke and enough to make him play for Philly...i doubt it
