I don’t see how anything would be different since even with Daringer/Alch it would be the exact same flow and lyrics/topics. It’s just not as interesting as it was a few years ago.

These dudes hanging around Hov all the time and he hasn’t told them to switch it up? Vol 1 doesn’t sound like RD…beyond the commercial difference, even the street records sound different.

:hhh:

Respect to that man but I really don’t care what Hov thinks about Benny outside of dropping a verse.

Griselda been flat like a day old coke since they put them paper plane hats on.

Surprised to read PIM2 slander. No instructions, survivors remorse, when tony met Sosa, overall, plug talk and Talking Back we’re all dope to me. I preferred Harry Frauds soundscape over Hitboys imo.

This feels like a filler project, I wish he would just drop TT4 later in the year.

Same thing I was thinkin. PIM2 slander is crazy.

TT4 is definitely coming this year. This November will be the 3-year anniversary of TT3, and I think he might be shooting to release it by then, or around then.

He's been living a lot recently at Alc's studio in Cali with Daringer there too. I'm pretty sure they're producing almost all of it, and it might not surprise me if they do produce all of it.

I'm convinced most of you didn't start listening to Benny till TT3

This has always been his sound
I was talking about this with @areohbee824 the other week. I think @Piff Perkins may have mentioned it also.

My personal conspiracy theory is that Benny never was really into the Daringer modern boom bap sound. He started off as basically a trap rapper in the mid 2000's. He had on all the huge chains and was more of a 2 Chainz type cat. My little theory is that Conway and West ended up getting a buzz off the Daringer. Camoflauge Monk, and Alchemist production--and then Benny just rolled with that because that's what was getting them traction.

But I think Benny always had aspirations to get out of that lane when he was able to. I think he's not stupid and knows he's gotta always feed his base, and make sure to do projects now and then that sound like Tana 3 and Plugs 1, but I imagine Benny might prefer making Burden of Proof and Plugs 2 production.

One last bit of trivia that ties it together for me is that he was entirely hands off on making Tana 3. He let Daringer and Alchemist pick the songs for it and then sequence all of it. Once that album got such a huge buzz, he didn't take long to start expanding his production choices. And he's said that he wants to keep the Tana Talks series special, and only do a new entry into the series every 2-3 years.

I think Conway's shyt sounds pretty different. I'll be real curious to hear your take on God Don't Make Mistakes.

Everything Conway has dropped from 2020 to now sounds pretty different. From King to a God and La Maquina sound very different. Lulu doesn't sound like any other project Alc has produced. Even the Big Ghost tapes (which I don't even really like) sound unlike some of Big Ghost's other stuff.

I think Conway's ear is super dope, and he'll never be a Hov or a Nas, but he's expanding his topics and becoming a lot more vulnerable and introspective as an artist. I've heard 10 out of the 12 songs on the upcoming God Don't Make Mistakes, and 6 of them are either introspective, sad/heavy, or storytelling joints. I think you'll be happy with the growth. And he's kept producers like Daringer and Alchemist on there producing the bulk, but has expanded to use Bink, J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, 9th Wonder, and AraabMuzik.

And I think it's dope that Conway's newly signed artists Jae Skeeze and 7xve don't make sound like diet versions of him, and they aren't in that goon rap lane at all.

The other thing is that I take breaks and don't listen right away sometimes. Or I come back. I got a pretty huge list of music on my "need to catch up on" playlist.

And as far as indie artists go, they aren't really over saturating more than most. In fact there's some way worse offenders.

But I do think there's some merit to the over saturation argument, and I do miss when releases felt more special. I'll always prefer the style of dropping one really big and well executed project every 12-18 months. I know it's not realistic to expect that in 2021, but it's still dope when it happens.

Rule #1 in show biz is to leave the people wanting more.

I look at Tana talk 4 that big release. Everything else mixtapes….but not burden of proof that shyt was brazy

But I kind of do miss that one album big release.

No doubt. I think Tana Talk 3 is officially considered an album by him, and is Burden of Proof.

Plugs 1 and 2 are both EPs.

One thing I really fukk with about Benny is he stands behind the idea of calling all of his projects either albums or EPs, and he tends to avoid the mixtape term. And I like that he drops less frequently than Conway or West.

He's dropped less than people think. He dropped no solo project from June of 2019 all the way to October of 2020. In almost 3 calendar years now, he's only dropped:

- Plugs 1
- Statue of Limitations
(collab EP with Smoke DZA and Pete Rock)
- Burden of Proof
- Plugs 2

And I'm mostly over Westside Gunn as a solo artist, but he hasn't dropped anything in almost a year either.

Yup that’s part of the reason I like him better than con…. He spaces his work out more and in my opinion plans it better

I can’t really fukk with gunn

Thank you.

I actually became a Benny fan starting from 17 Bullets because of his beat selection.

TT3 was dope but I prefer him over beats with a faster tempo than what Daringer usually makes. I hate when he does features with artists like Gibbs or Dave East and they give him them slow boring ass beats
