I personally don't understand this line of thinking (and I'm not even applying this argument to the Democratic primary, because I think that is a ridiculous exaggeration).

When you have little or nothing to lose, I feel it makes sense to take "risks." To quote El Chapo, "In this life, he who risks nothing cannot win."

Institutionalization man. The devil you know vs the devil you don't. While I support Bernie, I can make a clear defense as to why black people shouldn't fukk with him, that has nothing to do with him personally, but everything to do with history. Black people have historically been left out of these types of "new deals". He says he's gonna build youth jobs and infrastructure jobs, but who's to say they won't all go to poor whites? What are our guarantees that those jobs will reach the black community proportionally?

You've gotta be white. Risks never worked out for black people. We'd prefer a sure thing

It's good to keep in mind that nothing is guaranteed from anyone running for office. If black people want to elect politicians that cater to our specific interests then we have to become more politically sophisticated as a voting block. That means abandoning party loyalty and electing policy makers who run on platforms that we support. That also involves grooming young individuals not afraid to buck the establishment who will serve our interest both at the local and federal levels. Bernie's policy proposals wouldn't completely free us from institutionalized racism, but some of his ideas would ease the burden.

Why in the world is this thread only 2 stars ? Some of the best posting
I've seen in some time in Higher Learning is taking place during this election
cycle.

I'm glad we have posters who apparently have a pretty keen insight and understanding
of the political process. Whether they like Bernie sanders or not, actual posting
that fits the moniker "Higher Learning" is GREAT.

I think we need to also understand one thing that is missing here--which might have been said in that link @ThreeLetterAgency posted reddit, but I can't see the full post so here goes--African-Americans are Democrats, not liberals. There is a difference. Black people are institutional Democratic voters because of the political wilderness Republicans put us in. But African-Americans over 30 are much closer to @Atlrocafella than people want to admit. They go along with progressive choices to the extent that we're all in the same coalition, but they're not as liberal. Sanders campaign highlights the limits of white progressivism. It has yet to be sold to black people, and it made no sense for Sanders campaign to focus on young black people who are less prone to vote and who are overcriminalized and have been taken off the voting rolls anyway. Sanders wanted to run a "pure" campaign and thought he could bypass traditional black power brokers, he was wrong. The guy who he had run his campaign does not even look like he had much political experience. See below:

Regardless, 80% of a race going for one candidate is NEVER a good thing. The idea of being in the tank for someone that much makes me uncomfortable as an AA. What exactly have black people gotten out of their Democratic Party loyalty? At the very least black people need to show that they would tinker with other more progressive candidates. Man, let me post this article about McGovern and Dems going the wrong way...shyt annoys me.

The Reddit dude hit that topic as well. "Blacks would lean more republican if the party wasn't so racist."

Let's tell it like it really is. Blacks have been conditioned to support the Clintons for decades. The only time they turned against this conditioning is when a black candidate had a legitimate shot against a Clinton. Now that is behind us so they have regressed back to being Pro-Clinton.

Sanders just hit the Senate in 2007. He doesn't have the national profile as he was from Vermont and in the House. He was the wrong person to run against Clinton. Many black people don't even know who he is.

you must be white. that sounds dumb as hell and that actually sounds like white man stuff you want black folks to listen to in order for them to hurt themselves even more.
